Car description

This is a 1956 IH S-120 3/4 Ton Truck. A rare one of a kind piece of history. This truck was sold in Oregon and spent most of it's life there. I am sure it has been a low mileage work truck used for some particular purpose that I am not sure of. Some of my friends say it might have had some equipment or a boom mounted behind the cab at some point. There is a space where someone definitely had something mounted. For being a 1956. this truck is very complete and in pretty good shape. Don't wait if you want this truck until the auction runs it's course. I have had a ton of interest in this even before I am posting this. MechanicalsStraight Six IH Silver Diamond 220 I think. It may be a 240. I am just not sure. It features the original starter and generator. It has been nicely converted to 12 Volt at some point. I put new stacked intake/exhaust gaskets on it with a brand new 3" exhaust all the way back. Valve cover gaskets. nbsp;water pump and gasket. nbsp;thermostat. new hoses and belt. Recored the original radiator and flushed the system. Pertronix Ignition with Flamethrower coil. new plugs and belden wires and a Motorcraft 2150 Carb Setup Conversion. I am fairly happy with this conversion. but I have decided that I think I would go back to the single 1904 Carb eventually. AutoZone now has them in stock. I have the original core and oil bath air cleaner that will come with the truck in case you decide to convert it back. I did not touch the transmission. transfer case. hubs or diffs. This truck will go into 4x4 just fine and is like driving a tank. It all works. Gas tank was dropped cleaned and painted. Fuel lines cleaned and it has a new mechanical fuel pump. A new Gel Cell AGM Battery for starting this beast. DriveThis old girl starts. runs steers. and stops decent for a 1956. Sometimes she coughs and sputters. It has the original distributor on it. I don't really like the advance and the play in it. I would take it out and have it rebuilt with a new drive gear. There are several companies that you can send it to for a refresh or even upgrade to a HEI. Not a lot of power in these old engines but geared well for pulling heavy loads. She drives straight on the road and the steering is pretty decent with not much wondering at all. 50-55 is about max for this truck with this drive train. The brakes work but catch a little until you drive it a bit. Once you hit them a coupe times they do just fine. They may could use little adjustment I'm sure as all old drums do. I don't feel unsafe driving it. The tires are still in decent shape. but I think it really needs a less aggressive tread and a tall skinny tire. This would dramatically make it steer and handle better. However. the big tires look better. InteriorMexican blanket covers the brown vinyl seat. It sits well. but it needs recovered. The interior is very nice I think for this model truck. Very clean and well kept. That is probably because the doors shut like a safe and is well built. Both window roll up and down. The driver side has a crack. The rear needs replaced. The front is still pretty decent and I would not change it. Manual vent works. choke works. throttle cable works. all the gauges work but not real accurate. Fuel sender works well enough so you don't run out of gas. Visors are there and it has basic seat belts that aren't that great. ExteriorA very solid truck with dings and dents and scrtaches here and there. Holes in the bed for whatever equipment was in there. Still very solid bed and the tailgate is solid and works well. The main rust in the bed is at the front lower section. It has rusted through some there. Bumpers are in great shape and look really good. All the trim is there as well. The front floors have the original mat and there is rust under there but not rusted through. Very heavy gauge metal and still very solid. WiringI spent a ton of time rewiring and getting lights and things working. I left it all exposed for now in case I need to trace anything else down. I put new tail lights on it. You could still work on the wiring and eliminate what is not being used or upgrade it to newer wire. The horn works sometimes but needs a new relay. Don't buy this truck if you want a plush easy drive. It does not have power steering or power brakes. It does not have an iPod connection or even a radio. No heated seats. No easy synced clutch. It is a piece of truck history and only made for 2 years in this body style. You probably won't even seen one in your town. I have only seen 2 in person my whole life in TN. I have extra parts for this truck and some are original parts. I will include them if you want me to. This is a cool old truck that really deserves a frame off restore. You can keep just improving it as it of course a little at a time. I decided that if I kept it. I would have to restore it properly. I also have other projects that are in my shop now that needs attention. Please let me know if you have any questions.
