Car description

.

Here's a beautiful Packard 160 Super 8 Club Coupe - it's a factory 4 passenger car, with a rear seat for your friends! And of course it's a CCCA Full Classic, so it is welcome at all the CCCA shows and tours, as well as AACA, and the Packard Club.

.

It has the big powerful 356 straight 8 engine, working factory Overdrive, Radio, Packard Heater ( Important since it was sold new in Idaho!) Luggage rack, twin sidemounts, Glass Winged Goddess of Speed mascot, Packard driving lamps, backup lamp, fenderskirts, and the piece de resistance, a Packard locking gas cap!

.

It's finished in the factory Packard color, Inverness green, a nice medium metallic green. Henry Ford did not work at Packard, and they did not all have to be black! If you stepped up to a Super 8 Packard you had your choice of a rich color palette.

.

A great profile.

.

And bumperguards too!

.

Pretty!

.

Love the Goddess of Speed - with the glass wing and speed lines!

.

Packard Road - Fog lamps!

.

Here's the passenger side, with the dual sidemounts showing.

.

Very streamlined. Which is handy at the freeway speeds, courtesy of 160 Horsepower and overdrive.

.

Very, very nice.

.

This is a ver, very nice car, although it's not a show car, there are some rock chips and paint flaws that would cost points at a national event. The chrome is very nice, but there are a few spots that show some chrome blushing, particularly on the hood side louvers.

.

The optional luggage rack made it necessary to use the Bullet style tail lights carried over from 1939 so the tail lights would be visible when a trunk was mounted. A non-luggage rack car would have had the more usual 1940 style tail light.

.

there's the back up light.

.

The dashboard is very nice, with excellent plastic and nice woodgraining. We can see the heater down below, as well as the radio speaker towards the right.

.

The upholstery is done in leather, a correct choice for the coupes, you could have had either cloth or leather. This interior is nicely done, with just a bit of age showing on the driver's seat back.

.

Nice doorpanel.

.

The club coupe had a back seat - the business coupe did not. This is a club coupe.

.

The 1375 number shown here on the firewall tag tells us this was a Club Coupe 160. This is the original firewall tag.

.

More of the rear seat. There's a blemish on the sidepanel.

.

Good view of radio speaker and heater.

.

Nice dash and gauges. The Speedometer, gas gauge and amp meter work great, the Temp and Oil guages have been bypassed for an under-dash unit, which works fine. Good for touring.

.

The runningboards are excellent, with nice, live rubber and the proper ribbed chrome accent pieces. And the step plates are nice too!

.

Nice headliner.

.

This very nice 1940 senior steering wheel is being included, since the unit on the car is from '41.

.

Nicely trimmed trunk. Where's the spare tire? Sidemounts!

.

Clean!

.

There's the 356 Straight 8 . It runs beautifully, nice and smooth, all the power it's supposed to have, and it's the original engine too as we'll see from examining the engine number

.

C5 is the proper number for the 1940 Packard Super 8 160 Engine. Packard didn't match the engine and chassis number, so the C5 is our identifier, and it is referenced in "The Packard Story" by Turnquist.

.

the wiring was redone in the proper cloth backed loom.

.

Manifold side. Proper carburetor.

.

The Packard 356 was famous for a reason - it made lots of power, lots of torque, and was - and is - extremely smooth in operation.

.

A perfect car for tours and events!
