Car description

1939 Packard 1701 Sedan. 16. 00 MILES. UNRESTORED ORIGINAL. See VIDEO. 1939 Packard 1701 Touring SedanListed on behalf of Monte Shelton Motors. Sold new by the Packard Motor Car Co. of Fort Worth. Texas on October 28. 1939. the original owner of this car is unknown. It is known that it made its way to California where it was stored and preserved for many years by a noted Packard collector. Today. the mileage showing of just 16. 43 miles is believed to be true and correct. All indications of the condition of the car confirm this mileage. Outside. it wears its original. 76 year-old "Packard Blue" paint. Condition overall is very good. with some areas of crazing and rubbing to the lacquer. with a few old touch-ups noted. Please see photos. The chrome and trim are excellent with no pitting. testament to living in a dry climate. (Bumpers may have been re-chromed at some time in the past. )The interior is amazing. and again points to the accuracy of the mileage. The upholstery is supple (not dry or rotted) with only a slight sag and very small tear noted in the driver's seat area. Door panels are excellent. The headliner is excellent and tight with no water stains. The garnish moldings and window reveals all wear their original wood graining. which is in superb condition and has somehow managed to avoid exposure to the sun and rubbing elbows (another clue to the low mileage. ) The front rubber floor matting is excellent. including the heel area at the accelerator. The running board rubber is also in very good condition showing only minor aging. The rear compartment moss tread carpet is also in wonderful shape. Again. please see the photos. Under the hood. the original 282 cubic inch straight eight runs well. No noises. smoke or other issues. Engine has not been cosmetically detailed and wears original factory paint. The car has an auxiliary oil filter and factory overdrive (untested. ) I have personally driven this car and it starts easily and runs smooth with plenty of power. Brakes are excellent. All gauges work and register accurately. This car features the first year for Packard's column-mounted gearshift ("HandiShift") and it shifts well. These cars have great torque. plenty of get-up-and-go and cruise easily in modern traffic. There is truly nothing else like a Packard. Options include dual sidemounted spare tires with covers. "Goddess of Speed" hood ornament. deluxe bumper guards. working radio and heater and added turn signals. There is an old saying. "They're only original once!" And this car is certainly original and well-preserved. It would be welcome in Preservation Class showings at any car show or concours event. It would of course be welcome at Packard Club tours and shows. While it could easily be painted and brought to cosmetic perection. the charm of this car is its originality. It is something that cannot be duplicated. You certainly won't easly find another one with this low mileage that has enjoyed such great. long-term care. A realistic reserve has been placed on this car in keeping with its unique condition. low mileage and rarity. Please bid accordingly. WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS. WORLDWIDE.
