Beautiful garage find (first photo) 1949 MG-TC in excellent original condition. This is an incredible once-in-a-lifetime oppurtunity to buy a clearly preservation-class collectable investment MG. An impeccably careful owner from 1950 to 2008 used and maintained this car. and then owned by me following a comprehensive complete engine and brake system rebuild. It clearly shows the loving care and attention that was lavished upon it by its two owners. The engine starts easily and runs smoothly and quietly like a factory new car. This is the rare EXU “Export to USA” model with all the proper EXU equipment: including a recently-installed rebuilt EXU 3-spoke marbled-tan color steering wheel matching the dash fascia plate. the original special USA-spec bumpers with the impossible to find original MG plaque in the center of the rear bumper. Note: there were less than 500 EXUs built. and less than half of these exist now. The car also has its' original dealer-installed working Arnolt heater. the two wind-tone horns under the bonnet and the factory-installed turn signals. The original wheels shown on the car in the pictures were painted red at some point (not an original color. but more like the style of the pre-war cars) to match the interior. Although. I think the red wheels look great. I bought a set of five brand new proper silver/grey British-made MWS 19” center-laced wheels with factory mounted and balanced new Dunlop B5 tires. and these are available for the purist who may wish to substitute them. That was my intent. and is quite understandable. All interior leather. rexine. wood. canvas/double-duck top. full- and half-tonneau. and side curtains are original and in very good shape – with a nice patina. There are no holes or torn seams. though I must admit I carefully re-sewed the pleats in the seat cushions myself by hand using the original holes with heavy-duty thread. The paint is almost 100% original. There was a touchup on the scuttle to repair some lacquer that dried and flaked off. However. you cannot tell it from any of the other paint. The fenders. hood/bonnet. gas tank and aprons etc. are all original paint. Even the rexine-covered panel under the dash is still there. This car could probably be used as research vehicle to write a book on what the factory fresh MG-TC EXU was like. OK. so there are a few other aging blemishes. There is a very small patch of undercoat showing through the topcoat paint on one of the fenders. The result of many car washes and polish and waxing. I suppose. There is a small leak in the gas tank when it is full of gas. which I can have repaired. at cost if the buyer wishes. I haven’t had the repair done yet. in case the new owner chooses to live with the annoying leak or have repaired himself rather than have the repaired tank repainted. We can talk about that. A few photos show an external Lucas Altette horn and SFT-462 fog light that are not original on the EXU models. They should and have been removed. as shown in the other photos. The car comes with the original full tool kit. cover and includes the Shelley jack and accessories. The short story on the car history is that my college physics professor in Pennsylvania bought it new in 1950 on his wedding day (I have the original Bill-of-Sale). The professor and his new wife. an English professor. pampered their prize possession for 10 years. and then he (with my help) put it on jack stands in his garage in 1960. He never used it again. planning on de-coking the engine. as he said. It never happened. and although they never agreed to sell me the car. I was able to buy it from their estate after they both passed on. I would rather they were still alive than have the car of my dreams. At that point. I had the engine completely rebuilt and all drivetrain components refurbished. where needed. by an esteemed restoration shop (I have all records etc. ) in the Carlisle. Pennsylvania area (Enola). In 2009. I drove it to their gravesite near their home in Annville. Pennsylvania for a special memorial service – reuniting them with this car one last time. Afterwards I had the car shipped in a covered transport to my Texas home. Now. my interests lie in pre-war MGs. and I don’t have much chance to use this one. So. if I can find a good home for it. I am selling it. Please note: the buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and cost. Seller will help coordinate and supervise the vehicle pick up. Any questions. please feel free to contact the seller. I will be happy to advise.
