The Woody station wagons have always been a great fascination for many car collectors and enthusiasts. They are a thing of beauty because of the combination of the metal sculpturing and the wood finish. These great Woodies are often the favorite car in a collection and some women have told us that it is because they remind them of beautiful furniture. Here at MissChiTown we are always intrigued with the Woody station wagons but one of the most interesting is the 1949 Mercury Woody. It was part of the fabulous new design at the time by Ford Motor Company for Mercury that made the Mercury look very muscular. Of course this year has always been very popular from the beginning with the customizers because these cars are so attractive. However, e enjoy seeing one like the car in this auction that retains its authentic Woody look from new.

This car has been fully restored to something over the top. It does have a few upgraded modifications such as a 12-volt electrical system. Most people will agree if you are going to have a Woody it is always best to have a manual transmission. This car not only comes with a manual transmission but also comes with the highly desirable overdrive so that the car can cruise easily at today's highway speeds with the engine leisurely turning over.

The owner of this car has gone over every detail of the car and made sure that everything has been rebuilt, ot only the brake cylinder but also the brake hoses, lso the starter and he even refurbished the door locks. Some of the things that some people forget when doing a restoration are the channel window strips, ealing the gas and re-coring the radiator; this car has all of these things completed and redone. We suggest that you take a look at all the things that have been done to the car and we think you will be impressed at the owner's thoroughness.

Besides the mechanical aspect of this car, ust take a look at the color scheme, he wood, he dashboard, he upholstery; everything is done with great respect to the car's original design as it left the factory and a high quality restoration.

This stunning 1949 Mercury Woody station wagon, here is much more to the car than even what first meets the eye. A restored low-mileage since restored example of Mercury's famous E.T. Gregorie design, he beautiful styling looks like a genuine objet d'art. This Woody retains all the original wood.

The body was repainted in a beautiful maroon that perfectly accents the wood. The entire interior was all removed and the seller said that the floor panels were in very nice condition with no rust issues.

The Merc flathead V-8 and the 3-speed on the column with overdrive did not need to be rebuilt but the seller went through everything to make sure the car was in great operating condition.

The speedometer and radio do not work due to the fact that the car was upgraded to a 12-volt system.

Beautiful, owerful and a treat to drive, his 1949 Mercury Woody wagon is a joy to own.
