Car description

1980 Mercedes Benz 450SL – Clear California Title. Rust free. Straight body. NO RESERVE. I bought this car to restore. I am in the slow process of moving out of state and I recognize with my move, it is better for me to sell the SL. The Mercedes SL (R107) series and the 450SL (R107) was a wonderful version of the roadster / sports coupe. The person I bought this Mercedes from had stored it since 2008 and it has not run since that time. It has a clear California title and the title has been kept current in a “non-op” status. The body is straight, (I included some side view pictures of the body sides) and the car is accident free. It includes the removable hardtop as well as the soft top.
This is a California “rust free “car. I cannot find rust on this car at all, but I certainly won’t say that if you look hard enough you could find some minor place somewhere. But this car is as rust-free as most people would dream of having. The engine oil is full and clean, the radiator fluid is also full and clean. The 1980 model has the “CIS” fuel injection which is a big improvement over the electronic fuel injection system the earlier models came with. I did drain the fuel tank, and the tank is ok. I put new fuel into it and the starter spins the engine normally and it tried to fire, but did not start. That is as far as I have gone on checking the engine out or attempting to start it. I have not run the engine or driven this car myself. The person I bought it from said it was in running condition and was parked because they bought a new car. Since I have not started it myself, I cannot guarantee the drivetrain condition.
It has been upgraded with the very desirable Euro version headlights. The miles on the odometer are correct. Check the pictures out and ask what ever questions I can answer ahead of time. You are welcome to come take a look also. This is a “project” car or maybe even a car which parts from another rusty or wrecked car can be transferred into to end up with a rust free, straight car, if that might be a good option for someone in that position. It is not reasonable to expect to drive this home. There is a lot of work to be done. The paint has been affected by sun on hood, top, and trunk and has various defects. The interior is in amazing condition for 40 years old, but don’t expect it to be perfect, it is not. It has defect areas, discoloration in places and associated wear.
Check out the pictures I posted. The car is sold as-is, where is. There is no room for discussion on this. DO NOT bid on this car unless you plan to complete the sale and provide payment in full within 7 days ! I have done my best to post honest pictures and information and will answer questions the best I can ahead of auction end. Payment is expected IN FULL within 7 days of the sale close. The deposit is due within 24 hours of the time the sale is completed. I will work with you on you on when you will be picking up the car. Shipment and arrangements is YOUR responsibility. I certainly will help facilitate that process as I can. The car must be picked up within 30 days of close of sale. If you need to store the car longer, I am willing to deliver it to a local storage facility as long as you make the arrangements with that facility and then you can store it as long as you need.
I will accept Paypal. Other forms of payment will need to be confirmed before I can release the car.

In addition to the EURO headlights, the car does come with the genuine Zenith wire wheels with original and correct Zenith knock-offs. These wheels are very high-end and are a very desirable high-cost upgrade. I do have the 4th Zenith wheel for the right rear of the car and that wheel goes with the car to whoever buys it. But I do not have its knock-off or theadapterwhich bolts to the factory Mercedes Lugs and is needed to install the wheel. The buyer would need to find those two parts to install this fourth rim.

Good luck!
