Car description

1974 International Harvester Model D200 Camper Special 4x4, 392 V8, Automatic Transmission, Factory Air Conditioning, “Bonus Load Bed” ***80,300ish Original Miles*** CA Truck-nearly zero rust.Title in-hand, truck non-op registration in CA. Line Set Ticket will accompany sale.Power Steering, Power Brakes (Front Disc), Chrysler 727 TorqueFlite Automatic Transmission rebuilt in January 2018, Air Conditioning (compressor gone), Tilt Wheel, Clock (not working), Trailer/Tow Package/Bumper (rear anti-sway bar), Trans Cooler, Dual Fuel Tanks, Air Shocks, 4.10 gears, Edelbrock 1405 Carb w/Lokar transmission linkage.1974/75 Models trucks (the last years that these trucks were made) came with front disc brakes and the engine moved back about 4” to improve center of gravity/handling.The 392 IC (Improved Cooling) engine runs strong and kicks down well. It has even compression (130 lbs on all 8 cylinders). The truck rides pretty well but could probably use new bushings and shocks. I’m not sure if the air-assist shocks in back are still good or not, I have never filled them with air. The four non-original aluminum rims are in good shape. Tires have good tread but have sidewall checking.InteriorSeat and door panels were recently reupholstered with high quality nylon auto upholstery that is more of a gold/bronze color than the original somewhat greenish-gold color (that was a bit weird). Aside from the strange original interior color, the OEM fabric (which is still available) was way over-priced for the quality ($90 a yard) and the pattern was more appropriate for a living room sofa than a truck. I had the upholsterer match the OEM stitch pattern but delete the seat buttons that are uncomfortable and fail points. The inside metal door covers have round speaker cut-outs but the new upholstered door panels are solid. The upholstered door panel quality is so-so. New molded carpet with upgraded “mass backing” was installed in a color complimenting the rest of the interior and exterior. The original headliner was in bad shape so it was discarded. Headliners are available and inexpensive. There is some untreated surface rust on cab ceiling. I did not replace the headliner so the new owner could decide whether they want to match the fabric, paint or dash. The new interior looks very nice and retains the spirit of the original. The dash pad was in good overall shape but the speaker grate was filled in with foam and flexible filler so it looks as though it never had a speaker grate. This work was done about 6 years ago so the pad has gone through hot summers and cold winters uncovered. It is stable and shows no issues.Tilt Steering Tilt Wheel column was very recently rebuilt with all new guts.Original floor pans/cab corners were in excellent shape. However, the areas were wire-wheeled, treated with rust-mort, coated with rust converting primer then spray-lined.ExteriorPick up bed is in excellent shape. Spray-liner was applied by Transfer Flow and is very thick (the bed will actually hold water so could use some drains w/plugs. Tailgate is perfect (rare on a 1974 pickup). The truck had a camper on it so the tailgate was probably removed early in its life. The pewter “International” tailgate insert is not installed but will accompany truck if wanted. It too is in excellent shape. The IH color on this truck is called “Ivy Iridescent” (metallic). It was re-sprayed at some point. The paint has a few years before needing major attention. I spot painted areas that were a little worn. The hood was recently resprayed-color match is so-so. No rust was painted over to conceal. If there was rust, the area was sanded, treated and covered with primer and paint. I believe the truck can be driven for a few years and spot painted here and there before a full re-spray is needed. The exterior of the roof would be the area that needs attention first but that’s a pretty easy job. NeedsRadiator has a leak so needs to be repaired. I did not address this as I thought the new owner might want to install an aluminum radiator. I add water to the truck before I drive it. There is no AC Compressor. Since the old piston style compressors are inefficient power hogs, it is recommended that the available adapter plate (about $40) be used with a new smaller/more efficient Seltec compressor at about $200.00. The windshield gasket needs replaced. There is a leak on the passenger side toward the corner where the rubber has shrunk away from the frame. It will leak with rain so I tarp the cab during the rainy season. There probably is some rust on the windshield inner flange but I doubt it is more than surface rust or I would have seen it while the dash pad was out. When the windshield is out, there is a rust spot on the exterior of the frame that should be addressed-common issue with these trucks. The truck brakes fine but the brake light flickers on and off every once and awhile so I would replace the vacuum booster/master cylinder (the master cylinder is rather ugly from surface rust anyway) and also check wheel cylinders. The truck could use new shocks and possibly spring bushings as well. Air Shocks on the back have not been tested. The fuel, temp, and clock gauges are not working so need to be tested. I will leave the gauge cover plate off and the dash pad loose so the gauges can be pulled quickly and repaired or replaced. One of the fuel tanks was dropped and cleaned. The same should be done with the auxiliary tank. Not sure if the fuel selector switch works as I have never used the aux. tank. Door locks need new cylinders which are available. SummaryThis description is not all-inclusive but pretty close. I have pictures of the work done. I bought my first IH back in 1984 and have owned many since. I know Internationals well and though not perfect, this is an extremely solid D200 4x4 Camper Special with the big 392 IH V8, towing capacity and air conditioning. It truly is a survivor with low miles. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. As you know with most unrestored 45 year old vehicles, no warranties expressed, written or implied.
