A true Barn Find
If you have been looking for an unmolested original Dodge a100 pickup you can stop looking.
This is a barn find my brother and I found. I was planning on keeping it forever but now must sell.
This is an all original (except seats) 1964. This came off the line and went straight to the navy base as you can tell by the navy plague on the dash. The grey you see on the truck is not primer, but rather it is the navy grey paint popping out from underneath the red paint.
A local elementary school later bought the truck and painted it red. The elementary school used it as their utility truck.
This truck is one of a kind as it is unmolested. Thats how I love my vintage vehicles. Buff it out and linseed oil it and drive with its original patina or spend a few grand and put a beautiful paint job on it. I have detailed below as accurately as I can all the info you need to know.
The truck gets all the looks and comments when I take it out.
We had the truck gone over professionally and replaced everything to make it drive safe and dependable.
Brakes, wheel cylinders, radiator re-cored, I have all the receipts and will supply them to you.
The interior cab metal looks brand new and the remainder of the truck is in amazing shape. It does have some dings here and there.
This truck even has its original rubber floor mat. There is light surface rust on the passenger side on the floor board and a bit more on the drivers side. The rear of the cab flooring is great as you can see in the pictures. This is also a common place to see rust.
Doors are great! If you know these vehicles you may know that the doors especially at the bottoms are usually rusting or rusted out.
This is a westy truck and the minor rust there is is surface rust except 2 spots which I explain below. It was mostly stored inside for decades.
Now the flaw. The man who had this truck stored some things in the bed. You can see where two areas on the side of the bed need patched where moisture accumulated at the 2 front sides. For some reason he had stored some carpets in it and the moisture collected at the two sides of the bed. The drivers side front corner is the most extensive. The passenger side front corner of the bed has rust in the same area but not to the extent of the drivers side. The two sides also need patched where the moisture rusted through. The bottom of both pillars in the bed need patched in. The drivers and passenger side rear panel in front of the wheel will need some sheet metal patched in. Easy fix if you are a body man or if you know one. I have outlined where the issues are. The rest of the bed and tailgate is in very solid condition with west coast surface rust. Wheel wells are solid.
Other than that this truck is amazing. The underside is very good.
It has the bullet proof 225 slant 6 and 3 on a tree and runs great.
Hubcaps are original but only has 3 of them.
A common problem with westies can be the drip rails. Not on this truck. Drip rails are great. I have no idea why but there are what appear to be 3 or 4 hammer marks on the driver’s side drip rail.
I have no idea what the leather things are on both sides of the upper inside part of the windows. Was this used for the navy or the school? I haven’t a clue but I left them there. They can be easily removed.
The brown you may see on the underside of the roof is a bit of light surface rust and glue from the headliner which is no longer there.
The front end and nose on this truck is awesome. No rust. The tailgate is in incredible shape.
There is a scrape and dent on the passenger side door where the older man swiped something. He used it on his ranch.
The passenger windshield it cracked. It’s flat glass and any local glass maker can cut it but if you are in to these you already know that.
Last month the ignition tumbler malfunctioned. The key can still be turned and turn the truck on and off but I am afraid to pull the key out because I may not be able to put it back in. So I ordered and have a new cylinder specifically for the a100 which of course will come with it. I won’t get around to switching out the cylinder myself. Because the cylinder malfunctioned when the key is in the off position it still makes contacts so its in the ac mode and it drains the battery. I simply have been unhooking the battery cables behind the driver's seat when I shut it off. This will be corrected when the new cylinder is put in.
Jump in this vintage truck and drive it back across country if you desire. Starts up on first crank. It runs great!
