Car description

This Classic is one of the most iconic models that were ever produced by the Dodge Pickup Division. Dodge manufactured the D series pickup trucks from 1961-1993. The same basic design was retained until the 1994 introduction of a completely redesigned Ram.

The pickups were manufactured with two bed styles. The Sweptline model featured smooth bed sides. The Utiline model is better known as “Step Side”. The Utiline is the rarer and more desirable of the two.

This truck is a complete, nut and bolt, body off frame restoration. Virtually every component, in the engine bay and drivetrain, exterior, interior, and undercarriage has been either restored, replaced, or refurbished. This includes nuts, bolts, and fasteners. Lifetime North Carolina truck, hidden in the mountains. Owned by an elderly man that was mechanically adept. He improved the truck slowly over several years, including fully replacing the interior. He finally sent it to a shop to complete the body off restoration. The work was completed about 7 years ago, with very few miles logged since. Runs and drives as well as it looks. 1968 D series truck production at the Warren, MI. plant began with VIN. # 80001. This truck is the 753rd in sequential production off the line.

EXTERIOR:

Body was stripped and refinished in Chrysler Red. Paint is uniform, smooth, and buffed to a mirror gloss. Dual outside mirrors. Short bed step side. Grille, chrome, and emblems are all in very good condition. Glass is tinted and in very good shape. All seals, jam seals and weatherstripping have been replaced. Bed has some scratches and wear from use. However, all fasteners, bolts, etc. in the bed were replaced. For safety reasons, the factory fuel tank behind the seats was removed and a fuel cell installed in the bed. Fifteen inch painted steel slotted wheels. New Goodyear Wrangler RT/S radial tires. P235/75R15.tires

ENGINE, DRIVETRAIN, AND CHASSIS:

The heart of this truck is the venerable 225 Cu. In. slant six engine, one of the most durable and efficient engines ever produced by Chrysler Corporation. The innovative design and 30* slant of the engine allowed for many advantages over standard 6 cylinders of the era. Maximum air flow due to equal length intake runners and header primaries, and unique cylinder design produced sufficient power and more torque than any other six cylinder. 127 horsepower and 215 lb. ft. of torque. Engine and engine bay are fully restored and detailed, including all new bolts, nuts, and fasteners. Engine bay and hood finished in body color. Restored to factory specs. Three speed manual transmission. Column shifted with Synchromesh. 8.75” rear differential with 3.55:1 gear ratio. Frame and suspension are painted black. Underside is finished in body color. 3600 lb. rear axle. 1100 lb. rear springs. 2500 lb. front axle. 1025 lb. front springs.

INTERIOR:

Interior was completely disassembled, prepped, and refinished in body color. Vinyl high back bucket seats with cloth inserts. Custom made center console. Headliner, door panels, sun visors, and carpet are in excellent condition. All dash knobs have been restored. All clips, fasteners, bolts, washers, and screws have been replaced. Horn button is mounted on left side of steering column. Factory speedometer, fuel, alternator, and water temperature gauges. Oil pressure warning light. All lights, gauges, etc. are functional.
