Car description

1971 Avanti II 117 Avantis were built in 1970. The built date for this car was 11/16/70. This is an RQ-B model with the high seat backs. It was delivered to Gaines Oldsmobile in Brooklyn, Y in January 1971. These cars were built to order and were all ordered with individual colors and interior options. This car has a 350 V8 with a 350 Turbo transmission. It also has electric windows, ear defogger, ilt steering wheel. power rear antenna and A/C. The original color was Nutmeg Brown Firemist RMA2096G and the interior was brown vinyl with fabric inserts. It also has the original Blaupunkt Am/FM stereo. I have the original built sheet for the car. 1971 Avantis were not changed much from the original Studebaker models. The front was raised sightly and the drive train was changed to Chevrolet. I have all the original exterior trim for the car including the bumper irons. I also have a set or rechromed bumpers that were replated by Paul's Chrome Plating. They are very nice. Replating Avanti bumpers is tricky because too much grinding can leave the bumpers not fitting the contours of the body. I paid $1500 to have these rechromed. The hog troughs are in poor condition and they will need to be replaced. These are the structural steel pieces that connect the frame to the body on the side of the car. Reproductions are readily available. Many reproduction parts are available for the car. The dashboard is in good condition with no cracks. The windshield is cracked and the surrounding trim is dented. I stripped the body to the primer some years ago. There is some body damage at the LF corner and the LR corner. I do not have a key for the car. I do not the conditoin of the motor. I suspect it is free. It ran well when parked. The car was bought as a running project that got stalled due to kids and life in general. I was raised in Indiana and these cars were the hot set-up when they came out. I had always wanted one. In fact I visited the factory in June of 1970 and got to see the cars being built. Mr. Altman even let me drive his personal car around the block. I know this car looks a mess, ut I think it is worth saving. It pains me to sell it, ut it time to move on. Connecticut does not issue titles for cars older that 15 years old, ut I do have the title from the seller that is assigned to me. I do have much of the original paperwork that was delivered with the car.
