MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer another outstanding example of a rapidly appreciating air cooled Porsche. We are proud to offer this Grand Prix White 1976 Porsche 912E Factory Sunroof Coupe that has been recently restored correctly but also has maintained its originality with an all numbers matching original drive train down to the original optional Fuch alloy wheels! This 912 was sold new on 4/11/76 at Gateway Porsche in Portland Oregon and remained in the Pacific Northwest area until 2001 when it was brought to Arizona by its owner.
The 912E was a single-year production North America-only model, with only 2,092 examples produced between May 1975 and July 1976. Fewer than 500 of them came equipped from the factory with a sunroof, as this one has. This particular 912E, made on January 26, 1976, has undergone a restoration with less than 700 miles since completion. The engine and transmission were removed and fully rebuilt and sealed (fully documented), the original Grand Prix paint was refreshened with a professional respray, new headliner, all new weatherstripping and rubber including the sunroof and new tracks and cables for the sunroof and windows.
This Porsche today stands in its factory correct Grand Prix White finish and the 912 just looks stunning in person! The paint and trim are in very good order, as are the glass panels, which are clear and haze-free, including the electric rear window defroster. The car’s lights are in similar very good order, intact and crack-free. The car rolls on radial tires, sized 185/65R14, surrounding the original, 14-inch Fuchs alloy wheels. The tires and wheels are in ideal shape. This car’s body panels are solid and straight. The front luggage compartment is amazingly tidy and still has its original paint; its original spare tire is still in place and has never been used. The tool bag and tools are present; one of the tools still has its original factory tag in place. The front and rear bumpers are in great shape, too.
Under its rear-mounted hood is a recently complete rebuilt 2.0L flat four-cylinder engine with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection #4061041, connected to a rebuilt and resealed five-speed manual transmission #061004. The engine and transmission were rebuilt in 2011 by The Import Car Corner in Phoenix Arizona along with numerous other mechanical restoration work. The technician notes of the rebuild are very thorough and included with the 912, a total of $14,283.00 was spent on this rebuild. In 2010 the suspension and brakes were completely rebuilt with new brake discs, brake pads, brake lines and new shocks. With its 21-gallon fuel tank and gas-sipping engine, this car’s driving range could easily exceed 600 miles.
Previous service records and receipts for this 912 are very impressive. Included with a 3 ring binder that is organized by decade, inside is every major service record since the car was new with no gaps of missing service history. This 912 was undeniably well taken care of by all previous owners and is the major factor why this car is still presented factory correct today with all numbers matching drivetrain. Also included with an original signed Porsche Certificate of Authenticity from 2000 and the original owners manual with service stamps from the first 5,000 miles.
The interior of this 912 is extremely nice and tidy and just another sign of how well this car was taken care of. Inside, the black interior is in fantastic shape, from the correctly reupholstered front bucket seats, to the matching carpet, to the new, gray headliner and the black instrument panel with VDO gauges. The original four-spoke steering wheel looks great with its thick rim. The inner door panels and shift lever are in very good order. The sunroof has all-new weather stripping, tracks and cables. Finishing off the interior is a Sony AM/FM stereo, CD player and bluetooth connectivity.
After a six-year absence, the 912 was re-introduced to North America for the 1976 model year as the 912E (internal factory designation 923) to fill the entry-level position left vacant by the discontinuation of the 914, while the new 924 – another Porsche-Volkswagen joint effort vehicle and the 914's official replacement – was being finalized and put into production.
The "Prototyp" Museum collection in Hamburg, Germany includes a 912E pre-series vehicle constructed utilizing a 911 Chassis No. and four-cylinder VW-Porsche 90HP 2.0L Type 4 similar to the late-model 2.0L 914/4.
Once in production, the 912E shared the "G-Series" bodywork with the 911S but was powered by an 86 bhp 2.0 L Volkswagen air-cooled engine, refined with a new Bosch L-Jetronic (Air Flow Controlled) fuel injection system. During the production run of May 1975 to July 1976, Porsche manufactured nearly 2,100 of the 912E, targeted to the United States market.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 190,105 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, actual mileage Arizona title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
