Car description

• 1927 Pontiac 6-27 Coupe •
Listed on behalf of the owner.Located near PORTLAND, OREGON.
This second-year Pontiac Coupe was purchased new in 1927 by a librarian in Hemet, California. She drove the car sparingly and amazingly, kept it until 1981 - a total of 54 years! The solid, original car was subsequently purchased by the father of the current owner in 1984. He had plans to restore it, but parked it in his garage/barn where limited work was done over the next 35 years, and it remained until his recent passing. Several months ago, this car was removed from storage and mechanically and cosmetically refreshed to bring it back to driving condition.Today, the odometer shows just 56,700 miles, (an average of just 609 miles a year over 93 years.) While it cannot be verified, based on the car's condition, the mileage is believed to be correct.
The original 186 cubic inch 6 cylinder "split head" engine was examined and found to turn freely and be in excellent condition. The vacuum tank fuel system was rebuilt, along with servicing of the carburetor, distributor and a full tune-up. The starter was fully rebuilt, a new 6 volt battery and cables were installed. It started easily and now runs nicely. I have personally driven this car and it runs, drives and stops well. Runs cool. 3-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. 2-wheel brakes stop likely as well as they did in 1927. All instruments work with exception of the gas gauge. Headlights and tail light work and shine brightly.PLEASE SEE VIDEO OF ENGINE RUNNING.
The body is straight and solid, with good wood framing and no rot - testament to its life spent in the dry, southern California climate. Panel and door fit are excellent. Doors close easily. Trunk is solid with excellent original wood floor. When recently removed from storage, most of the body still wore original 93-year-old factory "Ardsley Green" paint. Sometime in the past, the fenders and hood were stripped and finished in gray primer. Recently, we have re-painted the fenders with gloss black lacquer, the hood in green enamel, and the bumpers in silver to help preserve the car for the new owner. The radiator shell wears original 1927 chrome plating that is remarkably good. The undercarriage is in original, solid condition throughout.
Receipts with the car show that the interior was completely replaced in the early 1990's. It is upholstered with correct green corduroy seats and door panels (as original), with wool headliner and green carpet. The top was also replaced in correct black short-grain leatherette. The interior and top present nicely today with no rips, tears or odors. The windows in the car appear to be original 1927 plate glass. No cracks or discoloration. All windows roll up and down easily, including the windshield, which cranks up into the header bar for ventilation.
Five new Lucas brand 4.75/5.00"x20" vintage-style tires were just installed with new tubes and flaps on the original demountable rims. The original wood spoke wheels are solid and tight. The car drives down the road with no wobble or shimmy.
PLEASE SEE PHOTOS THAT WERE JUST TAKEN FOR THIS LISTING AND SHOW CURRENT CONDITION.
Overall, this is a largely original, well-preserved, early Pontiac Coupe that with some fine tuning can be driven regularly as it is for fun, or it is a great start to a full restoration. The choice is yours. The car is complete, with nothing missing. These early Pontiacs are uncommon but have a strong following through the Pontiac-Oakland Club. This car includes both an original owners manual and a shop manual reprint, plus receipts and notes documenting its long history.
