The MGB is the kind of car for people who enjoy the trip. It is easy to see why these cars are so popular. The sleek European lines with just the right amount of chrome give a MkIII MGB like this one a confidently regal appearance. The later MkIV cars trade in their chrome grille and chrome rear bumpers for black plastic units giving this style the upper hand by far. This distinction means the MkIII and earlier MGBs will often cost you a bit more. but they also hold this extra value. The white paint has a nice mirror shine. and those who come for a closer look will see a nice blue pinstripe for a subtle dash of color. The trunk has the luggage rack that was a staple of these European roadsters. It looks like it's just begging to have a wicker picnic basket tethered to it for a day-long meandering journey. The wire wheels with knock-off center cap were an option when new. and today they offer this roadster some nice distinction. This is not the kind of cushy interior that comes from a turnpike cruiser. but if you've read this far. you already knew that. Instead. the entire inside envelops the driver like a second skin. The space between the three-spoke wheel and the stick shift (both with factory optional wood accents) is exceptionally close. for comfortable and quick performance. The driver gets a full set of Smiths gauges with a large speedometer and tachometer. as well as dials for other vitals such as oil. fuel. and water. The black vinyl bucket seats are pristine. and they are a great fit for a wide range of heights. Anyone settled in these sport seats can reach back and put up the new matching black soft top. While the entire interior feels exceptionally original. there is one nice modern touch. The stereo is an AM/FM/CD unit with an auxiliary input. a nice touch with the enjoyment of a sunny day. What makes these cars legendary is their feeling on the road. The 1. 8-liter motor is rev happy. and the twin SU carburetors are given a little extra zest from K&N air filters. Just one look at the pictures. and it is obvious that the restoration included the engine bay. Still. later down the road when it comes time to service the motor. it was a staple in enough British cars that parts and upgrades are readily available and affordable. What really helps keep this engine stay in its sweet spot of the powerband the best is the control offered by the four-speed transmission. with optional electronic overdrive. This spirited drivetrain is enhanced with the nimble rack & pinion steering and front disc brakes. All of these features combined makes this roadster feel connected to the driver that's why so many of these MGBs end up with a nickname. This MGB has been revived to be a great example of an international automotive icon. The only question is. what are you going to name her?
