Car description

This 1950 Mercury Woody Wagon is everything you love about vintage cars. It keeps the rare station wagon look and feel, right down to the three-row interior. But this also has been upgraded with everything from a triple-deuce V8 to cold-blowing A/C. Oh yes, it's an awesome combination that you're going to find irresistible.

This is a legendary style with the Mercury Eight series. These really had a terrific look to them with the grille and the bumper given one of the most distinct chrome smiles around. And of course, this is the icon for the lead sled customs. So they smoothed some trim and added bright alloy wheels for a hint of street machine look. But you can see the care and investment they took to make sure this example also retains its rare classic style. We all love the woody wagons, and these few years carried some nice detail. We especially like how the real lumber sides contour to meet the curve of the front fender. In fact, the Dark Cherry paint does a great job of being an attractive metallic finish, and at the same time, harmonizes with the deep tones of the expensive dark mahogany and birdseye maple lumber used on the exterior. It's high-class total look that fits perfectly with a car like this. These were reserved for the well-heeled customers and luxury hotels. It was one of most expensive Mercury in 1950 and less than 1,800 were produced. So 70 years later, each one is a rare sight - especially one done to this kind of quality standard.

The original idea of a station wagon was to ferry hotel passengers to and from the train station, and so this one still has plenty of space to carry everyone thanks to three rows of seating. The leather seats have a terrific two-tone brown with piping that adds a third shade of brown. It even almost looks like they mixed all three colors together to get the glossy wood on the side panels. So it's a well-coordinated and fresh look. The whole interior looks quite vintage, even the dash. But then you sit down in the driver's seat and start to really pickup up on the well-integrated upgrades. The Lecarra steering wheel has a leather wrap that matches the interior, and the bright billet center has the same level of polish as the art deco dash. The tilt column and well-placed auxiliary gauges make this easy to drive. Plus, there are great long-haul comfort upgrades, like cold-blowing air conditioning, cup holders, and an AM/FM/CD/XM stereo with flip-up DVD screen.

The engine bay is a full custom presentation with smooth inner fender walls to draw your eye to the shining V8 upgrade. The V8 not only looks amazing, but it's a 350 cubic-inch Chevy motor is great for upgrades. That's why you have headers, a high-rise intake, and it's all topped with a triple set of Demon dual-barrel carburetors. This triple-deuce motor even has the right supporting components, like the serpentine belt system, Malory HEI distributor, and a Holey electric fuel pump. So it's a strong powerhouse with a stout setup. In fact, with features like power steering, power brakes with front discs, and a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission, this wagon is a fun choice to drive from coast to coast.

Complete with maintenance records, you're looking at all the best of classic craftsmanship and custom street machine performance. And it's all done in one well-finished and comfortable package. So the only way this Mercury will disappoint is if you miss this deal. Call today!!!
