Car description

This 1967 Mercury Comet Caliente convertible was sold new at Schilling Parkway Motors of Memphis, Tennessee and was later purchased by my family for restoration in 1986. The father/son rotisserie restoration included a complete dis-assembly, sandblast, rust mitigation and body work, then a repaint in the original color. Power is from a Y-code 390ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and is documented to be one of 12 examples equipped with this powertrain combination. A professional engine rebuild was completed in 1987.Features includes power steering, an AM radio, and a power-operated soft top. At present, the plumbing for the top has a fluid leak. A Deluxe Marti Report with unique build details is available.

The body was originally finished in Onyx (A) and received a single-stage repaint in black Imron enamel. Some body panels were replaced, including the hood, passenger-side fender, and door. As an older restoration, there are small areas of rust bubbling. This can be seen in the detailed walk around video links below.

14″ steel wheels are equipped with factory wheel covers and were recently fitted with new 205/75 Hankook Optimo tires. The passenger-side window needs realignment. The interior features red upholstery (6D) with a matching dashboard and door-panel trim, and is one of 20 examples produced in this paint and trim combination per the Marti Report. Features include power steering, interval windshield wipers, lap belts, and an AM radio. There are vinyl seam separations on the front bench seat, and the heater core should be replaced. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 63k miles, and because of the cars history it is believed to be accurate. The Y-code 390ci V8 is equipped with a two-barrel carburetor and is linked with a four-speed manual transmission and 3.00:1 rear axle. The Deluxe Marti Report lists a build date of September 14, 1966 and details the original equipment and production statistics.

The car is currently insured with Hagerty. Because of rarity, a detailed discussion regarding replacement value was had in July of 2019. Based on that conversation, Hagerty rates it's value per condition as follows.
  • Fair - $18,000.00 USD
  • Good - $26,000.00 USD
  • Excellent - $44,000.00 USD
Though beautiful and fun to drive, this car will eventually need to be restored again if you want it as a show piece in "excellent" condition. Right now, it has slipped somewhere between a "Fair to Good" condition car. (see Hagerty descriptions at Hagerty.com) That said, I have listed it with a reserve well below the "Fair" rating. If you are interested, then bid to buy.
I require a $500 deposit within 48 hours of close of auction. The remainder of payment is to be paid by electronic transfer.
This vehicle is sold As-Is / Where-Is. I am glad to answer any of your questions and will be glad to work with your transporter. It will be released once paid in full.
Thank you for taking the time to look at this listing!
