Car description

This is a beautiful SL! It has a great body and perfect interior; it has a strong, clean motor and service records/known history. My father bought it in the late 90s, drove it for a few years and then gave it to my sister. She travels a lot, and put most of the miles on it, on the highway. After a decade of so of seasonal driving, she sold it to a family friend who drove it as a second car for a few years and did some body work (painted gray sections and hood). When he decided to sell it about three years ago, I bought it with the intention of using it as a half-year daily driver. Around the same time, my daughter was born, and so now there are three of us. Inaddition to be being a two-seater, it turns out this car has a passenger side air bag which can't be switched off. No car seat, even in a pinch, for this SL. I considered after-market rear seats, but heard bad things, and opted for a convertible with a back seat. Since then, I have driven it occasionally for a 120-mile round-trip to work (especially when it's hot-- the A/C works great).
The most notable refurbishments I've made are new leather seat covers and a new top, professionally installed, and two brand new tires. The car also has a fresh battery. The only thing I haven't gotten to is the sound system. The original radio works great, but it sounds tinny. I get used to it after few minutes, so I put it at the bottom of my priorities. I believe the car needs an amplifier. Also, the trunk-mounted CD changer goes on, but cycles through the disks without playing them. I've yet to try the cassette deck-- keep forgetting to dig up a tape.
This car is registered and ready to be test driven. Every month or so, ijump into it and drive it for a two hour trip to work. My other car is loud, and I always think this car has stalled out at lightsbecause its so quiet and smooth-- but it never has. It's ready to go; can be driven everyday, right now.
Body:Super clean-- from top down, including underside, frame members, etc.Paint is good,Over all the white color scheme brings out the understatedbeauty of this car-- it's hard to stop looking at.The wheels are mint-- no curb rash.Hardtop is like new except for a bit of wear on bottom rear edge. Brand new soft top.A few chips on signal lights and hood, and a few little nicks and small scrapes in paint, but overallcondition is great.
Mechanically: no issues-- everything works. Lots of records. Steering, brakes and suspension are tight. Front tires are newish; rears are brand new. Passed emissions test in CT in June 2017. Engine compartment is tidy.
Interior: The nearly perfect deep blue is interior is the best part of this car, and the new leather seat covers are soft and about as comfortable as car seats get. It's a truly luxuriant cockpit and everything works. Other than a few light cracks in burled wood varnish and some wear on the wood inserts on the door(see pics),the plastic, carpet, switches, lights and everything else are in great shape.
$9700, negotiable.
