1940 Lincoln Zephyr Custom Convertible Offered as a buy-it-now. Make us an offer!

This professionally built Custom is powered by a Lincoln 460 V8 bored .30 over, with a Holley 600 Carb, and Electronic Ignition, backed by a Ford C6 Transmission. Output is 400 HP with 550 Lbs of Torque. It features a GM Front Clip with Front Disc Brakes, a GM Steering Box and Cadillac Tilt and Telescopic Steering Wheel.
The Body was customized by Sports Classics of Salem Ore., with the Chin shortened, cowl vent removed, all chrome removed, the trunk hinges moved to inside, and all firewall holes filled. The overall original flowing lines of the lovely Zephyr body were left untouched. A custom lift off (or Carson) Top was constructed, as it better accentuated the flowing lines of the body.
Inside a fully custom and more modern interior features Maroon Leather and Whipcord, Vintage Air, Dakota Custom Gauges, and Power Windows. Tastefully finished in Ivory Base/Clear Paint this beautiful Custom Zephyr is a show stopper. The build quality of this car is very high, while completed some time back, it still presents as a freshly built car. It has al the Bells ahd Whistles one still wants in a custom even today- Power Steering and Brakes, Power Seats and Windows, A/C, AM/FM Stereo and more.
With less than 700 Zephyr Convertible Coupes produced in 1940, one rarely sees a Custom. This is a very rare car in and of itself, but it is truely a one of kind custom. The build quality of this car is very high, the car was won numerous Awards on the West Coast.

Introduced on November 2, 1935, as a 1936 model, the Lincoln-Zephyr was extremely modern with a low raked windscreen, integrated fenders, and streamlined aerodynamic design, which influenced the name "zephyr", derived from the Greek word zephyrus, or the god of the west wind. It was one of the first successful streamlined cars after the Chrysler Airflow's market resistance, and the concept car Pierce Silver Arrow, which never went into production. In fact, the Lincoln-Zephyr actually had a lower coefficient of drag than the Airflow, due in part to the prow-like front grille on the Zephyr, reflecting the popularity of leisure speedboats like Chris-Craft. The Lincoln-Zephyr succeeded in reigniting sales at Lincoln dealerships in the late 1930s, and from 1941 model year, all Lincolns were Zephyr-basedand the Lincoln-Zephyr marque was phased out. Annual production for any year model was not large, but accounted for a large portion of the Lincoln brand's sales. In its first year, 15,000 were sold, accounting for 80% of Lincoln's total sales.
Production of all American cars was halted by the Government in 1942 as the country entered World War II, with Lincoln producing the last Lincoln Zephyr on February 10. After the war, most makers restarted production of their prewar lines, and Lincoln was no exception. The Zephyr name, however, was no longer used after 1942, with the cars simply called Lincolns.
