Car description

This is a well maintained example of a quickly appreciating classic. It was originally ordered and driven by road racing legend Briggs Cunningham before finding its way into his museum. When the museum was sold in the 80's the car was not kept as part of the collection. It was subsequently shipped to Germany. by its new owner. where Mercedes went through the car mechanically then shipped back to the US. I purchased the cars a few years later with the idea of restoring it. The car ran so well and was in such an original condition from when it was new that I decided not to repaint or even redo the interior for fear or loosing some of the originality of the car and 1st owner. Briggs Cunningham had the car resprayed in his own color blue; this is why on the VIN plate shot you see the darker blue under the current paint. I have all of the service and road test records going back to the first owner. I also have the records for the work in Germany as well as those which I have preformed. I have replaced the AC compressor. all the air bags for the suspension. tires. rebuilt the fuel pump. new brake booster. new water pump and others. I want to point out that this is an unusual car in that the VIN number for the car also matches the model number - W109 series and it is the 109th model made. Pretty cool but not sure if that was intentional or a coincidence. The car runs strong. no blue smoke. holds air almost all year but does have a tendency to loose a little air in very cold weather if not used. I do not drive the car over the winter so if I do not start her she does drop after a few weeks but quickly returns to normal operating height. It does have a small oil leak but not enough to mandate a complete rebuild and probably will seal itself with more frequent driving. Jay Leno did a recent Leno's Garage segment of a similar car in his collection which can be seen on his sight or on You Tube and can provide some interesting details about this model. great clip.
