1989 Jeep 4x4 Grand Wagoneer VIN: 1J4GS5871KP103469 I’m often asked where we find these clean. unique vehicles. One of my sons often cruises parking lots of retirement homes. Elks clubs. the V. F. W. Hall and the back streets of a well-known Scandinavian neighborhood here in North Seattle. He can spot a seatbelt slammed in a door a mile away… He’ll notice when a nice old car or truck is driving with a turn signal left on just a little too long and he positively twitches with glee when a vehicle with metal bumpers passes by! (Text is OK. too) CONDITION: The photos really do tell the story. This rig has spent much. if not all. of it’s life here in the Great Pacific Northwest and has been driving our salt-free western Washington roads for the past few years. From the pictures you’ll see it has obviously been well cared for over its lifetime. We’ve found absolutely NO evidence of any accidents. body or storm damage. insurance salvage. theft recovery. repossession or any other nasty negatives to cause you concern as the next new caretaker! I take pride in our vehicles and feel that you should know as much about them as possible. Accordingly. here’s a list of the good and also any small things possibly needing attention: The four wheel drive system works just as it should. With a flip of a switch the drive train goes to full 4x4 mode. so most of the time you’ll be in 2WD and not wearing out the strong Dana 44 front axle components during summertime highway use. The overall exterior is in very good condition. This Grand Wagoneer wears the original gold metallic factory paint color and has had one good quality re-spray. It holds a shine perfectly with absolutely no breakdown of the clearcoat (a very common issue on Wagoneers). Both the factory original Marine Teak woodgrain vinyl and the trim are exceptional. Rust? Well. this classic Jeep HATES rust and you’d be hard pressed to find ANY here to worry about! Because we rarely get snow in the Puget Sound Basin. our winter roads are never salted. Climb over. under and throughout this SUV - I know you’ll come up smiling! One turn of the key and the strong Chrysler-built 360 CID V8 fires up from cold in the morning with just a few pumps of the gas pedal and has great oil pressure. The built-proof three-speed automatic 727 transmission shifts smoothly. just like it should. with NO slippage. There’s a tilt steering column. power steering & brakes. power door locks and electric windows (three of the four work. but can typically be a bit slow on the uptake). The tailgate glass goes up/down just fine by inserting the door key in the tailgate lock but doesn’t respond to the dash switch. I’d suggest having the air conditioning serviced before next summer as it does work. but doesn't blow very cold. Back in 1989 every Grand Wagoneer came with large front disk brakes and these stop just fine with no pulling or binding. All four factory alloy wheels are wrapped with 235/75R15 all-weather radials and have at least 65-75% remaining tread. Our shop installed new Gabriel Ultra shocks at all four corners. replaced the front brake pads. had the alternator rebuilt and then did a complete tune-up and oil change. This included new sparkplugs. distributor cap. rotor. motor oil and air filters. Both the front and rear differentials were also looked over and fresh gear oil was changed out along with new gaskets. It really is a blast to drive anywhere you’d wish to go! Please take another look at the interior shots. The upholstery is sound on both front buckets and the rear seat. There are NO cracks in the dash cover. The matching original tan carpets were recently replaced and are in new condition including the rear cargo area. Headliners always seem to be a problem for Grand Wagoneers. Virtually every one you’ll find has warped cardboard with the felt material coming unglued and sagging. We’ve found a solution by having our upholstery shop install an expensive “old school” suspended fabric & bow headliner that looks BETTER than factory (and always will) because there is no cardboard liner to work loose or become droopy! All of the door panels have stood the test of time and are in excellent shape. You’ll be quite impressed with the dash gauges. They’re still as clear and bright as the day this rig left the factory line 26 years ago! If you’re thinking about a comparable Chevy Suburban or Ford Bronco of similar vintage. you really owe it to yourself to look over and drive this unique piece first! About the only other things I can think to point out are: an inoperable Kenwood AM-FM/CD deck (it doesn’t want to power up) and a no-longer-opening sunroof that’s been blocked out on the interior.
