Car description

For sale: Rare 1973 Ford F-100 loaded Ranger XLT with factory A/C, Trailer Special and Northland Special options. I purchased this truck out of the estate of a lifelong friend who passed away 3 years ago. I believe he was the 2nd owner and he had it 30 years that I know of. He was a former Green Beret and law enforcement officer, and was a squared-away guy. He liked stuff sorted, and this truck reflects that sentiment. Always a western truck, it was built in San Jose CA and ordered new at H & N Motors in Poplar, MT by a rancher for his "Sunday" truck. He traded it in after about 15 years. When my friend got the truck, he wanted it nice and had it repainted and replaced a few parts it needed with NOS. Some of those include NOS steering wheel and grille surround. Truck was ordered with the highest trim level (Ranger XLT), big 390 engine, and virtually every option per the Marti Report:

- Shoulder Harness
- Tool Stowage Box
- Power Steering
- H78x15-B White Sidewall Tires
- Slide Out Spare Tire Carrier
- Northland Special
- Heavy Duty Towing Package/Trailer Special
- Air Conditioner
- Sliding Rear Window
- AM/FM Radio
- Intermittent Windshield Wipers
- Tinted Glass
- Dual Electric Horns
- Optional Fuel Tank with Standard Tank
- Heavy Duty Rear Shocks
- Heavy Duty Front Shocks

Truck is very stock and correct with the only modifications I know of being upgraded exhaust, and the era correct optional Ford truck alloy wheels. Still has the original jack, handle, and lug wrench, and original spare tire carrier. I’ll do my best to describe this truck below, PLEASE see the link below to Photobucket album with detail close up pics including the underside.

Exterior: One repaint in original Wimbledon White many years ago and still shines nicely. Driver quality main street USA paint job that looks good enough for cruise night and casual weekend shows. Truck has never seen salt and body is in good condition. Original owner did live on a dirt road and there were a few areas where mud collected and held moisture, as is typical. At the time it was painted, rust was starting in the usual spot above rear wheels, so those areas were repaired with aftermarket patch panels. If you know what to look for and where to look, you can tell there has been a repair. Casual observers won't notice, but car show nitpickers might. Only rust I can see on the exterior of the truck is a spot below tailgate on driver side. Underside is clean with nice floors, cab supports and drop offs. There were a few blisters starting on cab mounts behind front wheels and on box braces behind rear wheels, those were treated with Eastwood converter and POR-15 products. Body lines are straight and doors close with one finger. Glass is good and windshield is new. Chrome is nice with no pitting and bumpers are new. I do have the key for the box side toolbox and it does lock. Again, please see linked Photobucket album for detail pics including underside.

Interior: Nice original condition with no major flaws. Seat, carpet, headline, dash all in good condition. Door panels nice but have some extra screws. Glass is good and windshield is new, original CarLite sliding rear window. Vintage tonneau cover was custom made for the truck to match the interior, and it's in excellent condition. I believe everything works, the A/C blew cold when I got the truck but this fall it was not as cold and I believe it will need recharge before next summer.

Mechanical: Starts, runs, and drives out well and was meticulously maintained over the years. Whatever the truck needed, it got, and usually with OEM Fomoco parts. Truck is tight and has a low mile feel to it. Original 390 pulls hard with no smoke or noises and has great oil pressure. Original 3.50 towing gears were replaced with more highway-friendly 2.75 ratio. With the torquey 390 it's the perfect setup for all around driving. I've driven the truck a lot, and put many happy miles on it. Only maintenance I've had to do were oil changes and complete rear brake service including wheel cylinders and axle seals. When I got the truck absolutely everything worked, will double check operational items as I drive it this week and update the description. Tires have great tread and no cracking that I can see. All stock under the hood including air cleaner ducting and fuel evap cannister. Should be no issue for California buyers, 1973 models are smog exempt. No leaks other than a few drops of engine oil, not sure where it's coming from. Sorted rig that you could use for a daily, but as always, this is a vintage vehicle, it's not new and will need work from time to time. If you haven't owned older vehicles before, adjust your expectations accordingly.

Pricing/Misc: This truck is NO RESERVE and will sell. If you've been looking at vintage Ford trucks lately, you know that prices are climbing to the stratosphere. Here are a couple of 73-74 F100 longbox recent comps:

Runs and drives well, but flying in and driving it home probably isn’t a great idea, as Montana is a huge state with many remote areas with no cell service or roadside assistance. Reasonable transport is available, I will drive it to meet your transporter and help load it. Title is clear and in my name, buyer will need to get insurance upon purchase as I will cancel mine. I will store it after sale for 30 days, after that $100/month storage will be due.
