Car description

THIS 1956 THUNDERBIRD is a beautiful car, that has class. It has good white paint with black and white interior that is nice. Its powered by a rebuilt Y block V8 engine that runs sweet, its connected with a 3 speed manual transmission that shifts good. It drives good, stops good with power brakes. It has the removeable hardtop plus a convertible top stored behind the rear seat. The wide white wall tires are good and most thing work. HOW IS...THE BODY RUST WISE? I consider it good, all the panels look original to me. I see no rust bubbles in the paint and no rusty holes on the bottom. The frame looks very solid to me, the body supports look good, no holes on the bottom. The car looks to me like it had a dealership under coating job, this was a big deal in the day. Under coated cars don't look beautiful on the bottom, but it sure helped. This car is not beautiful on the bottom, but I consider it solid. Come look all you want, I have a overhead lift. WHAT IT THE HISTORY? I bought the car from a man north of me in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He bought the car from a lady near him. He said the ladies husband passed away was the reason she sold it. He bought it for his wife, but she never drove the car. WHAT ABOUT THE TITLE? I have a clear Tennessee title in hand and the VIN on it matches the car VIN plate. HOW IS THE PAINT JOB? The paint looks good to my old eyes. The body is straight when I look down the sides, I see no rust bubbles, no dents, no dings and the shine is good. You have to look with a picky eye to find a flaw, but you could find a spec or a couple of touched up chips, its good paint just not perfect roll out of the trailer show queen. It is modern base coat/clear coat paint. HOW IS THE ENGINE? It is a 292 or 312, they look the same to me. It has the T Pot Holley carburetor, some people call it a hay stack, it is a 4 barrel. The engine was rebuilt, but I have no documentation. It starts and runs good, the Y block engines had solid valve lifter, they run a little clearance. I see no blue smoke, no bad leaks, but it will leave drops of oil on your clean floor, these engines had rope rear main seals and are famous for weeping a little oil. HOW IS THE INTERIOR? Seat cover good with no wear or holes, it does have some wrinkles, the dash cover is good, the carpet decent, door panels decent. HOW IS THE CHROME? Bumpers decent, they shine good, a couple of minor defect, but very usable. The door handles good, emblems good, grill good, window surrounds decent. HOW IS THE GLASS? Side window good, they roll up and down good, windshield good with 1 stone chip, back window good. HOW IS THE TRANSMISSION? It's a 3 speed manual that shifts good, past owner just put a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. HEAD LIGHTS WORK! TAIL LIGHTS WORK! TURN SIGNALS WORK! BRAKE LIGHT WORK! WIPERS WORK! GAS GUAGE WORKS! HORN WORKS IF YOU PUSH IN THE SWEET SPOT! SPEEDOMETER WORKS! HEATER BLOWER WORKS! AIR CONDITIONING IS ALL IN PLACE AND NOT WORKING! TACHOMETER MAKES NOISE HOOKED UP! HOW DOES THE CAR DRIVE? I drove it home about 80 miles and it drives good. HOW DOES THE CAR STOP? To me it stops good, it is power brakes and all 4 drums. HOW IS THE COVERTIBLE TOP? It is old with no holes, 2 of the hold downs are missing. HOW ARE THE TIRES? Good tires with factory hubcaps. HOW IS THE UNDERSIDE? The frame looks very solid as well as the body mounts. It has dealership under coating, it works, but is not beautiful.
