1972 Datsun 240Z. Factory four speed. This Datsun is powered by its Original L-24 Motor of which was completely rebuilt. I purchased the 240 Z from the original owner's family. The 240Z has always been garaged, thus the body is rust free. I have the dealer purchase invoice as well as a complete maintenance history dating back to 1973. A stack of records over a inch thick is included with the sale. This 240Z has traveled just 144,000 miles from new. Maintenance records document the mileage. The 240 Z comes with meticulous maintenance and repair history.
MOTOR- The original numbers matching L-24 inline six was completely rebuilt by a professional shop who specializes in early Datsun's (paper work included). The VIN number (111140) on the engine block coincides with the engine bay ID/VIN plate. The engine bay and engine are immaculate and very clean. The motor presents its self like a jewel in the engine bay. The factory dual carbs have been recently rebuilt and professionally adjusted/tuned. At the time of the carburetor work the choke linkage was rebuilt and correctly adjusted. The original radiator was re-cored. The engine recently received a full tune up including points, and adjustment of the dwell. New battery, Accel super coil, starter, alternator, belts, hoses, fuel lines, and muffler. The engine starts instantaneously when the key is turned. The motor runs flawlessly, has good power. The sound is a pleasure to behold.
TRANSMISSION & DRIVE TRAIN- The transmission received a complete rebuild (paper work included). New clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. The original owner also replaced the stock rear end with a stronger rear end out of a newer car. The axle u-joints have all been replaced.
SUSPENSION- The complete suspension system was updated with poly urethane bushings. The result is a better handling more and more precise drive. This included, but was not limited too, the front and rear control arms, sway bar end links, steering rack, front and rear sway bars, sway bar end links, ect. New ball joints. The front/rear struts, front/rear sway bars, and steering rack have been updated with better units. I recently with in the last fifty miles had a complete suspension inspection and front end alignment by Les Shwab. The alignment tech noted the suspension and steering components are in excellent condition.
PAINT & BODY- The body of this car is rust free. This 240 Z received a professional repaint in the late 90's. The paint is in excellent condition and presents very well, say for a few minor blemishes. The body was taken down to bare metal. The motor, body panels, and all windows were removed prior to the repaint. The engine bay was completely repainted using the correct low gloss paint in order to replicate how it would have came from the factory new. The body of the car received a beautiful repaint in a base coat clear coat. All rubber seals were replaced at that time as well as a new windshield. The body of this car is in immaculate condition due to it always being garaged kept since the day it was purchased. The undercarriage is spotless as seen in the pictures. All door and body lines are perfect. The floors are rust free and in pristine condition. At some point a period correct rear spoiler was added as well as the very common upgrade to aluminum slotted mag wheels. The front and rear tires are brand new with less than 500 miles on them.
INTERIOR- The interior of this fine automobile is in near mint condition. I recently installed new front carpets and floor mats. I had these made by a professional upholstery shop and exactly duplicated from the originals in color, style, and in the correct weave. The seats have all been reupholstered. The factory wood grained steering wheel is in excellent condition as well as the headliner and door panels. All gauges, electrical, ect work flawlessly. The radio does not work. I also installed an exact reproduction dash cap from the Z Source.
BRAKES- I recently installed rebuilt front calipers along with pads and stainless steel brake lines. The rear wheel cylinders as well and shoes were replaced previously. The drums were also re-turned at that time.
OTHER NOTABLES-Original purchase contract. All records from 1973 to present are included as well as a stack of shop manuals, and vintage 240 Z literature. All four of the original hubcaps, extra paint from when the car was painted, rear window louvers, and an aftermarket front air dam that is already painted are all included with the sale. Clean and clear title.
Mechanically this 240 Z is superb, a total pleasure to drive. The visceral experience reminds you that you are in a very special 70's sports car, very reminiscent of exoticsports cars of there day. With a heavy heart I have decided to let my 240 Z go to the next care taker. ***I will be happy to assist in shipping this 240Z.Inspections are welcome but must be done before the end of the auction. I will be happy to answer any questions in person, over the phone, or by email. Any questions? Just ask.
