Car description

Attention first generation Camaro collectors, Own a part of first generation Camaro history that no one else has or will ever have, This is the only RPO L89 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS 396ci/375hp convertible known to exist, 1 of 1 documented with it's original protecto plate/owner history and NCRS report pictured, Note "MT" engine code which designates 396ci/375hp w/aluminum head option, I have been in contact with the original owner who still lives in South Carolina where he bought this car new, He purchased this car brand new as soon as he returned home from Vietnam on September 1st of 1968, He took delivery on September 3rd 1968 which is documented on the protecto plate, This was a special ordered car from Palmetto Chevrolet Company in Conway South Carolina and the gentleman that originally ordered it was not able to complete the deal, It sat on the showroom floor for approx. 5 months before being sold, It was originally ash gold with black stripes and a black rear body panel, black interior/black convertible top and had steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps, He had many interesting stories to share about this car from nearly 53 years ago, The 68 Camaro was the first Camaro to receive aluminum heads from the factory with only 272 1968 Camaro RPO L89 cars built and from my understanding while GM records are not exact it is estimated that only 6 L89 Camaro convertible's were ever produced in 1968, Of the six only 2 documented examples are known to exist, This is the 3rd and only one known equipped with the rallysport option (1 of 1) that has been hidden away for many years basically unheard of and unknown, Repainted many years ago to butternut yellow w/black stripes/black rear body panel with a black convertible top, Interior is black standard and now has black/white houndstooth covers, In the late 80's this car sat inside on the showroom floor of a small town Chevrolet dealership close to me, It wasn't for sale at the time just solely being used to draw attention with it being a rs/ss convertible with a big block aluminum headed engine, Current engine is a very nice sounding and running professionally built 475ci big block, Weiand aluminum "Stealth" intake, Holley 4bbl carburetor, MSD ignition, Ceramic coated big tube hooker headers w/complete 3" exhaust, Tremec 5 speed transmission, 12 bolt posi rearend with 3:73 gears, powersteering, front powerdisc brakes, console w/gauges, floorshift, manual convertible top, Runs, drives and sounds great, Drive anywhere, Solid southern car, Never subjected to salty roads, Original floors, rockerpanels, trunk, quarterpanels, etc.. Garage kept/pampered, Rare/1 time opportunity to own one of the rarest if not the rarest first generation camaro to exist, You will not find another 1968 L89 rs/ss convertible period, Must see to appreciate, Sold in as-is condition with a clean clear title and all of the documents pictured, Also includes the extra engine parts I received with the car, 396ci/375hp block # 3935440 with brand new high compression pistons, L89 Aluminum heads GM # 3919842, L89 Aluminum intake GM # 3885069, Holley 4053 GM #3923289 780cfm 4bbl carburetor, GM Alternator 1100814 w/deep groove pulley, Muncie 4 speed transmission, original bigblock crossmember and the factory SS hood, Serious inquiries only please and thanks for looking.
