MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this recently restored 1951 Fleetline Deluxe (VIN code JK) Custom Coupe Restomod that is finished in stunning metallic Firemist Orange paint. This Chevy comes from the dry American Southwest and has had the same owner for the past 8 years. This car was originally made in General Motors’ St. Louis assembly plant (VIN code 3) in December 1950 (VIN code L). Dressed in a Firemist Orange exterior, the car’s paint and trim are in excellent condition, as expected from such a recent restoration. The bodywork is straight and solid, the battery looks new, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the chrome wraparound bumpers are new. Out back are custom taillights that tighten up the body very nicely. This Chevy has blackwall radials, size 235/55R17 at all four corners and each tire is mounted to an American Racing Salt Flat polished wheel. The wheels are in excellent order and the tires are in very good condition.Under the hood is a 327 CID Chevrolet V-8 engine with an Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold. Backing up this motor is a Turbo Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission. This Chevy also has new rubber seals and weatherstripping, new side glass and a one-piece windshield but the wipers are inoperable. Inside, there’s a new buckskin-colored custom interior. The bench seats look fantastic, with matching tan carpet and a new, tan headliner. The inner door panels are also new, new felts as well as a completely upholstered trunk. There is a three-spoke, aftermarket steering wheel mounted on a tilt column that is in front of a Firemist Orange metal instrument panel but the horn is inoperable, complete with Classic Instruments gauges but the temp gauge and speedometer are inoperable. A floor-mounted Lokar shift lever completes the interior. From 1950 through the 1952 final year of its production, an automatic transmission was offered, which was quite sluggish. Overdrive was a rare option. Connection to the third member rear-end was via an enclosed “torque tube” driveshaft. The brakes were hydraulic with all-wheel drums. In 1951, the brakes got larger. The master cylinder was located below the floor connected on the frame rail, beneath the driver. Shock absorbers were of the lever type for the early years only. The windshield for all years was of a split, flat-glass type. A redesigned Fleetline with reduced body contour and integrated rear fenders was offered for the 1949 through 1952 model years. It was referred to as a “fastback” because of its distinct sloping roof which extends through to the trunk lid. The Fleetline during the 1949 to 1950 years also has a lower look than a sedan, with the windshield being one inch shorter in height than a standard contemporary sedan. The 1949 to 1951 models were made in both four-door and two-door models, with only the lower portion of the doors being interchangeable with a sedan door. The Fleetline series is currently highly collectable. Many are made into street rods, with the common Chevrolet 350 small block V-8 and the 350 or 400 Turbo Hydramatic transmission used.
