Car description

THIS IS A REAL SS PACKAGE TRUCK. THE RPO STICKER MATCHES THE VIN AND HAS THE B4U CODE.
ALL SS Trucks had the Vortec 4.3L V6, with a slightly higher output camshaft. ALL SS Trucks had the 4L60 Automatic Transmission. ALL SS Trucks had a 10 bolt rear axle with a mechanical locker and 3.42 gearing.
THE GOOD:
Clean Michigan title. No check engine light, no warning lights. Engine purrs and transmission shifts strong, it feels like a Transgo kit may have been installed, but I have no way of verifying. There is a lot of power for such a light truck. Burnouts are easy! When test driving, I pegged the speedometer with no hesitation from the engine or vibrations from the suspension (but I have never abused it since then). The frame is solid. Surface rust, but nothing serious. The cab does not have any rust holes that I am aware of. The truck was not driven at all last two winters. This truck has received a new set of Champion copper spark plugs and MSD spark plug wires. A previous owner installed an MSD high-output coil. The truck has received new powder coated front calipers, brake pads, brake rotors, and wheel bearings. The truck has received a new air intake sensor, PCV valve, intake hose, and Wix air filter. There is a K&N sticker on the airbox from a previous owner, I removed the actual K&N filter in favor of Wix, but didn't care to remove the sticker. All parts have been installed within the last 100 miles. The truck comes with a new hood release handle and cable, a new fuel filter, a new turn signal relay, and 2 new Spicer U-Joints for the driveshaft. The U-Joints are not in need of replacing, but the stock of US-made Spicer U-Joints is dwindling, so I buy them pre-preemptively as I do not want to use a U-Joint made of Chinesium. I have receipts for all of these items in a binder. The original bench seat was removed in favor of bucket seats from another S10. I no longer have the original bench seat. The truck has Weld Draglite wheels in the correct size, and the correct mag lugnuts. These are very desirable wheels. I also replaced the coolant, thermostat, and serpentine belt. Lastly, the tail lights were replaced with a set of ZR2 tail lights, which have the black covers. Also included is a set of Kenwood speakers that can be installed in the doors, and a refurbished Macintosh head unit. I do not have receipts for these items.
THE BAD:
The truck has 203k miles. This is high, but the engine and transmission have a reputation for being very well designed and very durable. If the truck was run as-is, I would be surprised if they didn't last through 300k. But most people interested in this type of truck would be swapping in a 5.3 or 5.7 V8 so it doesn't really make any difference - better to swap out a worn out engine than a nice one! The tires are very poor and should be one of the first things replaced before the truck is driven regularly. The tires do still hold air but have shallow tread and are weather checked. I would recommend a set of Cooper Cobras, as they fit the truck's look and are available from Discount Tire in a set of 4 for less than $500. The pickup bed is very rusty, I was planning to replace it. The bed also has a drop-in bedliner that could be reused if the bed was replaced. The body mount bushings have worn out and are causing the cab to not perfectly line up with the bed. The turn signal no longer flashes, but the light turns on. This is why a new turn signal relay is included. The handle and cable for the hood release is broken, the hood still opens but is now accessible to anyone from the outside. This is why a new hood release handle and cable is included. The interior is quite dirty and could use some detailing (but it is dry, there are no leaks). The rocker panels on the cab are starting to get rusty, as is the roof, but there are no holes. The AC Compressor does not engage, but it does turn freely by hand, so a new clutch assembly should fix it. The heater core was replaced by the previous owner, but he didn't hook up the vacuum line. Because I don't drive the truck in the winter, I never bothered to fix it. The biggest problem with the truck is that the paint is failing. It appears at some point the truck was painted metallic green, and then repainted black with no sanding or primer, as the black is flaking off to reveal the metallic green. I assume there is another layer of black, white, or red paint beneath the green as these are the only colors available in the SS package. The grille was also at some point replaced with a chrome one and then cheaply sprayed over with black. The correct grille for this truck is body color with a red bowtie.
