Car description

Just one cool old 1968 pick-up. Rare longbed stepside with the dependable and powerful 292 6-cyl engine. Fun to drive with three on the tree manual trans and manual bakes and steering. Truck is very nice for the year inside and out. I had purchased this truck and intended to do a 4x4 conversion on her. but after getting it. it was just too original for me to tear apart. I am only listing this truck once. at a very fair price. If it doesn't sell. I will move forward with my plan to build it to be my own. I wanted to give someone the chance to keep her original with this rare setup. not too many around anymore with this drive or bed. Truck still has factory owners manual in glovebox with trucks vin punched through the edge. BODYThe truck has had one repaint. years ago which looks sharp and will shine up nice. however it wasn't a very quality job. There is some filler in the lower rockers that is shown in pics and there are small pinholes in the bottoms of the rockers as well. The cab corners are really nice on the drivers side. passenger side has a hole about the size of a quarter. but looks solid other than that and a few pinholes. There is light hail damage on the truck. most too small to photograph and none that are really noticeable. All could be fixed with paintless dent removal. Doors operate nice and overall function well. They are aligned correctly and open and shut well. Handles have pitting. and one lower outer corner had some rust but not through. I don't know how it was treated but it was painted over and doesn't look to be progressing. There are pinholes under the flat spot that would be directly above the door sills when closed. Drivers side window goes up and down with some effort required. but passenger side is smooth. Driver wing window doesn't sit in the bottom correctly so I keep it closed(can include a used original if you need). Otherwise doors are really nice. panels look to be original and in good shape. door pulls are original an have some splitting. but still hold tight and don't look too bad for me to replace. (I like some patina. )Floors are very solid. first I've seen with no rust through under door sills or at kicker panel. There is light to heavy surface rust starting in these spots I would take care of these soon pics are included. Looks to be the original vinyl or rubber floor at with chevy part number stamped at the back of the hump. Overall it is the nicest cab I have seen. I keep her in the garage at all times. so she's not in the weather. I did replace door sill covers with stainless chevy repops seen in the pics. All screws are in original holes and none were stripped. Note that door weatherstrip looks to be original as well. Dash is original and shows what I believe to be 64000 original miles. Still has am radio. glovebox sticker. good cardboard in glovebox. heating control is very nice and may have been replaced. I can check if you would like. it does function properly. Below the heater control is an aftermarket fm tuner that works with the am radio. I will have the am radio on the correct freq because I always listen to fm. Speaker works fine in dash. and that's the only one. There is also paint missing from key swinging around the ignition. see photos. Bed looks very nice and fenders are solid. Wood is in good shape but would look nicer refinished. they painted the whole floor blue too and the paint is flaking off of the wood. Wood does look like it was replaced in about the late 90s I would guess. It's not rotted and you can see some faded poly/stain where paint is chipping off. Both bumpers look to be aftermarket and could be re chromed. they both have a few spots flaking. but no pitting or rust. Front end is all original to my knowledge. both bottom front fenders have very light pinholes. not major like most below the battery. Rad support and battery try look good as well. some pinhole and surface rust on bottom lip of hood. All exterior chrome emblems do have quite a bit of pitting. but trim strips are in pretty good shape and emblems still look good to me with the pitting( it is not a new truck). Front seat is original. except seat cover. you can unbolt both sides to fold. but wing nuts were replaced with bolts. still functional. Seat is comfy. and cover is in great used shape. MechanicalMechanically sound and all original to my knowledge. the truck starts with manual choke set an runs good warm. It's a little rough when cold and I believe I need to set the points in it. but I haven't had the chance yet. It was painted before I got it so I don't know if it was rebuilt. but the carb looks to have been rebuilt. Truck shifts good as well. Brakes pull to the right a bit when braking hard. assuming it's a stuck left caliper. but haven't dug in yet. still stops fine. She drives down the road great and steering is surprisingly tight for a 68. A few weeks ago a leak has started at the flywheel cover. I have not had time to check to see if is the rear main or the shaft seal. It is just a small leak. Wheels are original. but someone painted the poverty caps all black before I got her. all caps do have some dings and scratches. which is why I'm guessing they were painted. Frame has surface rust. no evidence of damage. and has spare tire mounted under bed with original hardware. Spare tire is old and should be replaced before using. other four tires are newer with good tread over 75% tread life remaining. I do have a free and clear title for this truck in my name with no Leins. I also have a copy of the original owners title from Tennessee. I think I have covered pretty much everything I can think of. If you have questions please let me know. I can get more photos. but they are easier to text. so include your number in the message. I have worked on quite a few of these and know quite a bit about them. but I do not know everything. so let me know if you see something that doesn't agree with my description please let me know and I will correct it. Overall. this is a beautiful old truck that I love to drive as it is. I wouldn't hesitate to take this truck to car shows. it isn't super nice like some. but people love to look at it wherever I go. With that said. I wouldn't expect to get a trophy. She is just a cool old ride. Your bare bones. plain Jane. manual everything. am radio kind of cool. No reserve auction. Happy Bidding!!!
