Car description

For sale is a 1970 Buick GS 455 Convertible in absolutely beautiful condition. It is 1 of only 58 Gulfstream Blue GS 455 Convertibles produced in 1970 by Buick. It is a complete numbers-matching car from the engine to the carburetor to the transmission to the rear axle to the frame. Equipment includes: Pearl White Bucket seats w/center console, tilt wheel, AM/FM stereo, factory-optional rear speakers, power windows, power locks, tachometer, 3.42 PosiTraction rear axle, rear sway bar, door edge guards, Soft Ray tinted glass, and remote-control outside mirror.

The 1970 Buick GS 455 motor was rated at 350 HP and 510 ft. lbs. of torque. I have not put my car on a dyno, but its numbers are stronger than the factory-advertised figures due to the outstanding rebuild of my engine.

A frame-on restoration was recently completed by Joe Castrigano, nationally-known expert restorer of 1970 Buick GS cars. Only 20 miles have been put on the odometer since that time.I purchased this car out of Colorado Springs from the second owner, who had purchased the car in 1988 from the original owner. Because of how clean the underside was on this car, it was absolutely unnecessary to remove the body from the frame.

The paintwork and metalwork are immaculate. It was restored to the highest quality. This is a no-excuses car.

As I am limited to 24 photos in this listing, I have tried to highlight the main areas of the car. I also included 2 of the 3 documents from the GS Historical Society which shows all of the equipment this car was originally ordered with.

Only a few changes were made to the original configuration during restoration, which included switching from a black convertible top to a white top. I also opted to use Buick 15 inch Rallye Wheels instead of the wire wheel covers. I also eliminated the bodyside moldings. It is a true bucket seat/center console vehicle. All power window and door lock switches are new. Seat covers, foams, carpeting, etc., are new as well. The AM/FM radio functions and has the optional rear speakers. Tilt wheel mechanism and lever are new. The convertible top is from Electron, and the entire frame assembly has been bead-blasted and repainted. The convertible top pump, hydraulic lines and struts are brand new, as well.

The numbers-matching drivetrain had never been out of the car, so I had the engine completely restored to better-than-Stage 1 specs, including cylinder head work with Stage 1 valves, and a T/A Performance 212 camshaft. The block was magnafluxed, and then bored .030 over. We used Sealed Power forged-aluminum pistons. The engine was balanced and the heads were ported. The total rebuild work was performed by Gary Paine from Chardon, Ohio. All of the original pistons, springs, rods, and camshaft are included in the sale.

The TH400 transmission was restored/rebuilt by Jim Weise of Tri-Shield Performance. It has the coveted 3-1 valve body from a Stage 1 TH400 transmission. Also purchased from Jim Weise was a 9.5 inch stall converter that is set up perfectly for this car's performance profile. The rear axle is the numbers-matching 3.42 code "OO" with PosiTraction, which was just professionally restored with a new Eaton unit.

This Buick runs and sounds like pure 1970 GM muscle.
