Car description

I'm a vintage Volvo collector offering for sale a very rare, low mileage, 1969 Volvo 142. The 140 series cars (142, 144, 145) produced from 1967-1974 are some of the rarest of all surviving vintage Volvo's. They are usually under-represented at most Volvo car shows and few seem to come up for sale on Ebay and other venues. I spent two years searching for a nice 142 when two cars unexpectedly came up for sale last summer during the same week. Unsure of what to do, I decided to purchase both cars and, as per the original plan, keep one and sell the other later. I've set a fair reserve for a classic Volvo of this rarity, originality and condition. It has a clear Virginia title verifying the low miles as true and correct.
Here's the history on this amazing 142... It spent it's entire life in the mid-atlantic region. The original owner left the car to his grandson in 2012, who in turn, apparently not a classic Volvo fan, opted to sell it to an exotic/classic car dealer in Maryland. It had only 32,000 miles. That dealer listed the car for $15,500 and it was eventually purchased by the owner before me. A year later (2013) that owner, after putting 3,000 miles on the car, decided to have the engine and transmission completely rebuilt by a local Volvo shop in Maryland. I have the shop receipts (over $4,500). I also have receipts for additional normal maintenance items and minor repairs from 2013 until 2017 when I acquired it. This included new brakes, water pump and a new battery plus annual oil changes. The car now has 37,882 miles, just 2,000 miles since the engine and transmission rebuild.
The previous owner sourced a high quality 140 series Volvo custom fitted carpet kit from Europe and had it installed over the original factory rubber matting. As you would expect, this carpet still looks new. Also added: a retro style vintage am/fm radio with Volvo logo is currently wired to the single speaker in the dash and has an aux cord under the dash for your phone.
The color is paint code 98 (pearl gray) and it appears the paint has had some refreshening, before it was listed with the dealer. There is no evidence of any prior bodywork or accidents though there are two very minor areas with some rust bubbling that have been repaired and touched up (only visible up close- see photo detail)...these are located on the front lower edge of the wheel well edge of the two rear wheels. Underneath, the frame is solid with no rust issues- see photos.
The interior is a cranberry red cloth that is original to the car showing minimal wear, exactly what you'd expect on a car with these low miles. The headliner is perfect. The dash is perfect with no cracks or discoloration. All gauges work.
All four wheels have tires that are a few years old but still in good shape with good tread. The original period correct Volvo hubcaps have red painted centers to match the interior. The brakes on the 1969 142's are front disk and rear drum and are in good shape (receipts provided show brake lines replaced and fluid flushed about 800 miles ago). The emergency brake works as it should.
The original B20 4 cylinder dual carb engine runs well. The oil is clean and was changed less than 1,000 miles ago. The car starts first time, every time (with manual choke) and once warmed up runs smoothly and quietly with excellent pick up and acceleration. The transmission shifts effortlessly. It's a really nice cruiser on the road. The trunk, as shown in the photo, is spotless. The trunk lid does not stay in the upright position however so the small hinge struts need to be replaced.
A factory 142 shop manual and owners manual is included for the new owner.
Glass is all original and in good condition with some minor fogging in the corner edges. Windows roll up and down as they should and rear windows pop-out with latches. Chrome and bright work is very good all around.
All in all you are looking at a superb example of a well preserved vintage Volvo that could be a daily driver or fun weekend car for cruise-ins and your local Cars & Coffee. I hazard to guess there are not many left in existance in this state of original preservation.
The car is garaged at my house near Charlottesville, Va, only a few miles from the Charlottesville airport (about 2 hours drive southwest of Washington DC). Fly in and drive home or I am happy to work with your shipper. Personal inspections are encouraged- email me through Ebay and I will respond the same day. Happy to also talk by phone as well- just contact me through Ebay with your contact info. I have the car listed for sale locally and may end the auction at any time if it is sold before the auction ends. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to make an offer before the auction ends.
