This Bus was purchased in Sweden prior to the restoration Bus Features Include: 4-inch narrow front beam, Lowered 4-inches front and rear (Can be returned to factory ride height) 1776 cc engine, freeway Flyer 4-speed manual transmission, Dual carburetors, Factory colors Sealing Wax Red with Chestnut Brown exterior, In-dash clock, Front bench seat, Sliding soft top sunroof, Wilwood disc brakes, Fuchs-style wheels, Photographed for Hot VW magazine in November, 2018. This is a MUST SEE Bus that can be driven anywhere, it's a show bus. Volkswagen offered its 1955 Transporter in configurations from bare-bones panel delivery to the well-appointed touring Deluxe, and this extremely rare 23-window example was initially manufactured with right-hand drive for the Swedish market. The iconic microbus made the journey from Scandinavia to its current owner, who delivered it to Stratton Motorsports in Winter Park, Florida, for an exacting two-year, 1,200-hour rotisserie restoration that brought original style together with high performance. The finished Deluxe emerged in 2018 and was photographed for an appearance in “Hot VW” magazine in November of the same year. The interior and body were finished to impressive original detail from the Deluxe white steering wheel and VDO speedometer out to the Sealing Wax Red and Chestnut Brown two-tone paint scheme and lighted semaphores. Volkswagen designed and built the Deluxe for eight-passenger touring with a cabin-length sliding sunroof and glare absorbing skylights that offer scenic views for every occupant. The tan upholstered interior is loaded with Deluxe-level appointments from the dash-mounted electric clock and split, folding bench seats to chrome trim and aluminum grab bars. A displacement bump up to 1776cc and dual carburetors help the air-cooled Volkswagen 4-cylinder churn out respectable performance. The transplant is a considerable upgrade over the original 1200cc engine that wheezed out just 36 HP. The worked flat-4 is backed up by a Freeway Flyer 4-speed manual transmission with modified gearing for more relaxed engine RPM at highway speeds. Wilwood disc brakes scrub off speed with confidence. A 4-inch front beam axle tucks the front wheels in for clearance, and the suspension is dropped 4-inches, but can be returned to stock ride height. The restored and modified microbus Deluxe rides on Fuchs-style wheels equipped with staggered aspect-ratio performance radial tires for a time-honored raked stance with a nod to Porsche. Thanks for looking and continue to watch our website: for new Inventory coming in daily!
