Car description

1973 Volkswagen 181 Thing in excellent condition, just as good if not better than those on EBay for over24 k. It has always been covered in a heated shop/garage. It has ZERO RUST,as it never had any. I bought this car a couple of years ago with a partner. He has since passed away. He was the VW guy. I ended up with 9 classic cars, now down to 7. I am the MG guy as I have 3 MGA's I will be keeping, so the THING has to go. The odometer says 97,089 miles, but lots have been replaced. The paint is really nice, with only a few very small chips with original touch-up paint. My Grandmother and I won 1st place in show with it this September at a small classic car show, (25 cars) Most of those other cars were classic American cars.
It has about 100 miles on it since the steering box, tie rod assembly's, steering damper, wheel cylinders, front brake drums, complete tune-up with all new parts, valve adjust with new gaskets, oil strainer gasket set, 20w-50 high zinc motor oil, fuel hose, brake hoses, emergency brake and speedometer cable, wheel bearings, wheel seals, ball joints, steering coupler, DOT3 brake fluid, all gas hoses and filter have just been replaced. VERY TIGHT STEERING. All work professionally done by one of the the oldest Volkswagen shops, (45 years in business) in Oregon..
It has the gas heater in front, (never used). It has never been in the rain or on wet streets since we owned it. The new Michelin tires and the clutch have less than 500 miles on them. Engine rebuilt within 3K miles. Good battery with emergency shut off switch. It has an old school Radio Shack cassette player with an aux. port, for discs, that works perfect with the 4 Big sound Pioneer quad speakers in the back and two Punch speakers in the front. The top is like new (2 years old) Side curtains, with storage bags, are new. It has custom chrome bumpers, and nice, new running boards. Has VW front bucket seats with head rests and seat belts front and rear.
It has Flowmaster and M.B.R.P. muffler and exhaust. As I am not a VW person, I am not sure about the size of the engine, and I know it has some AUBURN GEAR on/in it, So I will say it is a rebuilt 1600. It starts and runs perfect. It has a MOTOR TREND CAR cover, and a new Tonneau cover and storage bag for the top when it is down, not shown in pictures.
