    1985 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Westfalia
  • "Full Camper"

  • with Super Rare Center Captain Chair Option

Viva Las Vegas Autos Presents . . .

An incredible Westfalia Full Camper with super low miles and one of the rarest options ever seen on a full camper. This 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Westfalia camper is absolutely incredible from top to bottom...but in between, its one of the rarest seen optioned out Westy you will ever find. My search for incredible Westfalia campers is endless. I had my first experience owning my first camper in 1993. At the dealership I worked at had just taken in a 1991 Westy with 9k miles on it and I had to own it. Ever since then, I have been addicted to these incredible automobiles. Back then, they were special, but today, they are reaching CULT status with their owners. As a dealer, I have sought these campers out every day, of every week, of every month for the last 17 years I have been selling classic automobiles online. I see hundreds of course, if not thousands over the years. I have owned, refurbished and even performed full nut and bolt restorations on at least 30 or more Westys and Eurovans Campers over the years. About a year ago, I thought I found the holy grail when I bought a 1984 Westy Wolfsburg edition with the center bench seat and only 39k original miles. That was an incredible camper too...but THIS CAMPER takes the cake for Rare of the Rarest. Its overall condition is at the very top of the units I have owned and true one percenter by comparison with the thousands I have seen over the years. Westfalia campers are so versatile and useful that their owners rarely move on; especially when they are in exceptional condition. Nowadays, seeing an exceptional Westy with over 200-300 thousand miles is not uncommon. Most at that point have either had several owners, several rebuilds and modifications with many different engine conversions. If you have ever followed or been a client of GoWesty, units fully restored can fetch in excess of $70k. Finding an original, low mileage unit with all of its original factory paint in near perfect condition, no rust anywhere and the most perfect interior combination ever optioned, now that is truly a Needle in the Haystack find of my last 30 years. If you don't believe me, just try to find ANY Westfalia with a center swivel captains chair for sale...or even pictures of them. They are incredibly rare and probably still with their original owners; almost like this one was.

Viva Las Vegas Autos Known History . . .

As I mentioned earlier, I search for these campers everyday. I look to the internet, classified and local sales regularly and hope to find them in our western region so to keep rust to a minimum. Every once in a while, I will chase one down on the road until they pull over so I can make them an offer if they are willing to sell. Condition is at the very top of my list of importance. If it looks like and smells like it's been lived in for a half century, I don't even bother. They truly have to be in the top 1% of excellence in all aspects for me to consider buying one. Twelve years ago, I did a full restoration on a 1982 camper and that was the last one I ever wanted to do a full nut an bolt restoration on. What a job. Refurbishing them is not too bad, but full on restorations can break your wallet if you want them incredibly right. Just gander at what GoWesty has sold theirs at averaging over $80k these days. When I spotted this unit, my response time was instantaneous. There was no hesitation since it was local. I also found out that it was at the service facility that had been taking care of it for years. They were helping the owner market the camper after they had just gone through it for full servicing. No issues whatsoever, the aging owner had a back injury that motivated him to finally sell off his lovely camper he had owned for over 30 years. I met with the service location first and got the history from them and their experience with the owner, then called the owner and made the deal the same evening. Spent a couple hours with the owner interviewing him about his ownership and love of this Westy. He was a rock climbing professional with awards for his challenges including climbing El Capitan in Yosemite California. His camper was his traveling companion for the last thirty years for his passion. He told me of his story of getting the camper from his climbing buddy who bought it brand new right here in Las Vegas from Gaudin Volkswagen. His buddy, after five years of ownership, had stopped using the camper and the second owner petitioned to purchase it from him with only 22k miles on it in 1990. With extreme attention to keeping the maintenance and care of the camper in premium top shape, both owners kept this van garaged for all of it's years...except for their excursions. When you see the up close details in, out and underneath, you will instantly understand the genuine care given to this Westfalia to maintain it at a level so rarely seen these days.

Viva Las Vegas Autos Preparations and Conditional Assessment. . .

Anytime I buy a classic vehicle, I fully review its functionality and cosmetic appearance. Verifying the documentation is always important including titles being clear and any damage I might find or what may have happened in the past; that includes a Carfax report when available too. The only blemishes I found on this 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Westfalia camper were a very small scuffs, dings, scratches, chips and a small dent on the front driver's side that you will be able to see in the close-up picture. I also take my vehicles out for performance assessments and this Westy performed flawlessly. The rear bumper was slightly damaged, so I removed it and took it to my chrome shop and had them straighten it and polish it out. While it was off, I ordered side caps for the bumpers and replaced those when I got the bumper back. The next step was the most fun. I detailed this unit with a four stage polishing process that made the original factory paint look like brand new again. It had been highly cared for over the years...and garaged so there was not any fade to the paint, it just appeared as thought it had never had a high-end detail like I do that includes top to bottom detailing and everywhere in between. The results was what you see in the high resolution images. Yes, she is that good and shines like new still. Notice the details in the pictures...for God's sake, I took over 200 pictures for you to stare at every inch, so take your time...but don't take so long that someone else calls me up before the auction is over and makes me an offer to buy it before the auction ends. 95% of my cars are sold before the auctions end. So, don't hesitate to call me when you are ready to make an offer. Emails or texts asking me for my "selling price" or "my bottom line" with be ignored. I will be HAPPY to have a conversation over the phone with serious buyers but emailing selling figures is just plain stupid. I don't engage in stupidity. Also, if I get those emails or texts, I also have insight that you haven't even read a word of this disclosure and really are only looking for a cheap deal. This Westy will be bought by a savvy buyer that reads every word and sees every picture...and probably calls me too...because they want to talk to me, it's owner, before they make an offer and spend their hard earned money on a great investment. I will look forward to having a great conversation with you.

  • The only unsightly damage on the car is under the rear bumper where the owner backed into a small container in his garage.

The interior is fully functional and the AC even works great...as "great" would be for rear AC Westfalias.
  • The two front seat were covered in sheep skins for all of their lives until I bought it.

  • This is where the magic begins for this Westfalia. You are looking at the rarest option ever seen on a Westfalia full Camper. A fully adjustable and removable, center swiveling captains chair. This is the rarest option you probably will never see again. I look for these all the time for the last 27 years, and this is the first one I have ever seen. Good Luck finding another. I don't know how many came to the states, how many are in existence, but I can only imagine that with hundreds passing my view and never seeing one, it has to be the rarest option ever produced. Either that or the owners who have them love them so much, they never sell their Westys. Why? Well I am glad you asked that question. This option freaking rocks! The last Westy I owned was a 1984 Wolfburg camper with the center bench. I've owned three center bench campers and can see why, most of those benches spend their lives in the garage. That's not the case with this captains chair. It's just not in the way. The bench has to be removed to lay the bed down and get into the cabinetry and refrigerator.Tough to crawl behind too. This captains chair on the other hand is the bomb! It swivels a full 360 and slides forward, reclines a little and folds forward a little. It also has a lockable stowage underneath. It can also be attached on the floor in two different places. I have it attached on the outer location but the movablefloor panels allow you to move it towards the fridge. Not the ideal position but it can be placed there too. This outer location makes it fully usable for so many things. You can rotate it backwards and have a table between the rear bench and the seat. Or swivel to forward to have a table between the two front captain chairs. Swivel it towards the kitchenette and sit there while you are cooking, washing dishes or playing solitaire. My favorite position, facing out the door so you can sit back out of the elements, watch the kids, or grand kids play or just stair off into Gods beautiful country and enjoy your serenity. The if you want, take a minute to take it off the floor and set it outside...because it's light enough to carry, unlike the bench seat that's a monster to move in and out. This chair is heavy still, just not too heavy to move around. Whatever way you swivel it, its joyful. Oh, did I mention it makes this a 5 passenger van too? OMG Almost forgot that. For those with three little munchkins, this is the best van ever...with it's built in seat belt to keep them safe at any age. Wait until you see all the pictures I did of the endless swivel positions. Yes, I do take a lot of pictures. Enjoy.

  • The engine with verified 85k miles, runs perfect. Needs Nothing, and has NO leaks. Just fully serviced.

Viva Las Vegas Autos Note from the Owner. . .

I am a “used car dealer” but before that, I’m an automobile enthusiast. I love original, rareand high quality modified vintage and modern cars. Over the past 17 years I’ve been in business, I have come to appreciate anexpanding selection of high-demand, high value vehicles as well.I specialize in and I am always on the lookout for cars and trucks that were cherished by their previous owners.

I have an experienced eye for quality and I’ve discovered that my preferred buyers can instantlydiscern such a vehicle and I have therefore, built my businessand reputation around finding these kinds of cars for this type of customer.Super low miles and/or gentle ownership are strict requirements but a car must do something for me on a personallevel if there is any hope of convincing you, the buyer, that this is an above average, exceptional vehicle. If nothingabout the car excites me, it probably won’t do much for youeither and I would soon be out of business.

With no employees and no sales people, I realize howunusual a “dealership” like mine may be at a first glance. First I do an exhaustive 130 point inspection on each and every vehicle and hope nothing escapes our methodical investigation. Experience has shown that everything I spend making a car truly“right” will come back to me not only with a higher sellingprice, but a happy customer that says good things about Viva Las Vegas Autos. Moreover; it allows us to describe and disclose the car with ease and confidence, something that simply is not possibleunless we think it is true.If major issues are found or the cost of fixing the car the way it should be makes it tooexpensive to sell, my choice is an easy one.I simplyhonestly disclose the conditions and allow the buyer a less expensive oportunity to own the car.

After the vehicle is fully checked over and made whole at any level it needs to be, we researches its history, documentsdocumenting originality and authenticity.Historical significance, rarity, special features, possible modifications and much more are used to accurately describe the vehicle with integrity and honesty. Most important for the potential buyer are the 100 to 200 high resolution pictures that I take myself. The pricey equipment I use would be right at home in the hands of the very best professional photographers and I’ve developed a logical format that walks you around the entirevehicle with close-up shots of every square inch.Iprovide detailed views of the interior, under the hood and thenput it on a lift to show the undercarriage and confirm that the beauty of the car you are considering is not merely skin deep.Even our detailers are enthusiastic about the cars they meticulously clean.Reconditioning can sometimes takeseveral as we do all that we can within reason to get ourvehicles in tip top condition visually and cosmetically. Way more than just a cheap detail….Our details are more likerefurbishing to as close to new as we can possibly get our vehicles

Usually, I’ll also include a high definition video that shows the car doing its thing. If it’s a fast car, we film it going fast.If it’s a 4x4 you’ll see it crawling up ahill. In every case you will hear things like a rumbling exhaust, working sound system and watch gauges operational as well.

No “dealer,” on-line or in the real world, takes it to this level. No other seller or organization provides you, the buyer, with so much information. I do this because it is the only way I can convince a person; often a world away, unable to touch or feel their purchase that my vehicle is for real and what I say is an honest assessment. All the above is necessary for me to stay in business while keeping integrity intact.I want every buyer to be happy and I need glowing feedback on eBay.To accomplish that I need satisfied customers that are as thrilled with their purchase as I was whenI bought it.

If you have any questions at all, please call me on my cell at: 702-353-7500. If your inquiry is sincere and yourofferserious, you’ll find me the most accommodating businesspartner you’ve ever dealt with. If you call or e-mail asking for my reserve or “what is my bottom line” I will be looking for ways to politely end the conversation.Untilyou are ready to actually make an offer, I will happily quoteyou a liberal suggested retail price – a number we both knowwill not buy the car so, don’t waste your time, or mine. I am after all, a “used car dealer.”
