Car description

1971 Super Beetle. Low mileage - 61,500. Bought from long-term California owner, so car had not been in snow/rusty conditions. Car had been used primarily as promo piece outside his ice-cream shop. Previous owner had 1600 dual-port rebuilt engine installed. I have owned the car for about 6 months, and have had a new carburetor, fuel pump and rebuilt distributor installed, full tune-up including valve adjustment and oil change. New ignition switch installed. All new steering components (tie rods, drag link, lower control arm, etc) installed and a wheel alignment performed. New Boss AM/FM CD with USB and Bluetooth with new high power speakers. Sounds great. I just put 400 miles on the car and it ran perfectly. Service records back to 7/2000. Excellent tires (including spare) and brakes. Some original tools, including VW jack.CONDITION OF INTERIOR: 4/5 Overall very good. New OEM spec seat covers in front, orig carpets in good shape. Not working: clock and windshield washers, CONDITION OF ENGINE-DRIVE TRAIN: 4.5/5 Car starts with first turn of key, runs well. Does not use or drop oil. Clutch and transmission is smooth. Brakes are only a few thousand miles old. Tires (including spare) are excellent. Nice chrome wheels.CONDITION OF BODY: 3/5 Car has no rust in chassis, running boards, heater channels. Straight, doors shut properly, etc. Originally blue, it was repainted bronze about 18 years ago. Some surface rust/dent repairs have been done in the past. Basically, the body is in very good shape. Paintwork is acceptable but color is not consistent - sun-faded and touched up in places, with a few chips/nicks here and there. A professional buffing might improve it significantly, while a complete repaint would really enhance the quality and value of the vehicle. BOTTOM LINE: Great running car. Could be confidently driven with no needed repairs/maintenance for a long time. Only negative is the paint job. SHIPPING/PICK-UP: PayPal deposit. Balance by bank transfer, cash or cashier's check. Can be picked up in Cape Girardeau, MO. There are cheap direct flights from Chicago (ORD) to CGI if you want to drive it home. Or I will deliver to St Louis, Nashville or Memphis airports for $150. I can also assist in finding a reliable shipper. For all bidders: There will be a $99 fee added to the final price to cover eBay listing fees and other administrative costs.
