Car description

1985 Volkwagon Vanagon Westfalia Weekender - Wolfsburg Edition
For sale is my 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia Weekender - Wolfsburg Edition. I purchased this car in 2016 and since then have done some SIGNIFICANT upgrades on the vehicle. While she shows her wear for a 1985, she's only a step away from being an awesome weekend getaway vehicle.
I am selling her as I have too many vehicles, too little time, and am moving. I need to find this vehicle a new home.
Here's a short summary of the upgraded performed since 2016:
  • In March 2017: Replaced original engine with a GoWest GVW-2200, 1.9L 2200cc Rebuilt Engine (approx. 7000 miles on engine), including the GoWesty "Road Warrior" Warranty - Good for 4yr / 48,000 mi. Installed by Eion's Automotive in Seattle, Washington
    • Cost: $4300 in Parts, $1600 in Labor, $500 for Warranty
      • Watch first video below to see it running!!!
  • GoWesty Stainless Steel Exhaust Kit w/ Catalytic Converter-GW-SS-EXHAUST-INT
    • Cost: $979 in Parts
  • GoWesty Gear Reduction Starter:GVW-HTS-AT
    • Cost: $280
  • ARB 2500 Awning
    • Cost $400
  • New accelerator linkage and cable
  • New Fuel Tank
    • Cost: $382 Parts, $330 in Labor
  • Laminate Flooring! (See photos and video)
  • Brakes were were replaced when engineswap was completed - waiting to get record from shop that did the work, then I'll post that here. Brakes feel super solid.

Condition
  • Exterior: A few small dents and dings asseen, nothing expected from a 1985 VW. No signs of rust to frame or other structural components. There is some pitting in the paint in the front as seen in the photos.
  • Interior: Front seats and carpet are worn, as seen in the photos and included youtube video. I did own dogs and have done my best to remove all dog fur, but the carpet still requires some cleaning. Carpet overall has seen betterdays and has been partially removed in the front as it's gotten loose and sort of in the way. The bench seat iscorduroy and is in good condition, with no tears, but needs some cleaning. Rear cushion is in great shape. The rooftop bed is in like new condition. Flooring is in good shape, withonly one noticeable chip.
  • Mechanically: The engine sounds awesome and is a HUGE improvement over the original.
    • The only issue I have noticed is that there appears to be some fuel starvation going on, especially when the van has been sitting or the weather is hot. As such, I believe the fuelpump needs replacement, which is one of the few things not performed. One day it works fine, then it get hot out (car is in Arizona!) and she putters out. As such, I highly recommend vehicle isshipped and that fuel pump is replaced prior to taking her on a new adventure.
  • VEHICLE IS SOLD AS-IS. I have tried to post as many photos as possible, but inperson inspections are recommended before bidding. As I said, I HIGHLY recommend having vehicle transported, not driven, due to recent issues with fuel pump. For $200 you can replace thepump and filter from GoWesty.

PAYMENT: A NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT of $1000 is due with 48 hours of winning bid. The remainder of payment must be provided by wire or certified check with 7 days of auction close. If certified check is provided, the check must clear at our bank prior to release of vehicle and title. If funds are wired, title will be overnight mailed or provided in person.
SHIPPING: I will assist in shipping as required and highly recommend uShip, which I've used in the past. Shipping is buyer'sresponsiblity. You are also welcome to pick-up in person inTucson, Arizona - however I recommend using an auto transporter due to the current state of the fuel pump / filter.

Below is a video I just took of the engine running and then idling. As you can see she runs very strong, as would be expected for a basically new re-built engine.
