Car description

1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia Camper Van.
Low Miles 133,000
I have owned this van since 2004. Purchased with 58,000 miles from Go Westy. They thoroughly went over the van and updated where needed before I bought it. It's been an amazing van and it's been an awesome run but we are getting up in age and so our camping style has changed. The van has not had a lot of use over the last 3 years, maybe 1500 miles a year and so its come time for us to part ways and pass this Westy along to someone who can enjoy it as much as we have. They are truly an adventure van. It's been from Florida to Maine, through the Southwest and even up to the Canadian Rockies, and all points in between. Logging 75,000 miles in this van and it has never once let me down. Its always started and ran beautifully. I have not run in to a single "situation" where this van left us stranded or had to be towed for repairs. It's been incredible.

86-91 are the best years for the Westys. 1987 was the last year of the Chrome Bumpers

Interior seating is in great shape front and back, no stains, no tears. Arm rests work great. The mattress for the pop top area is equally in great shape, not worn out, no tears, no stains.

Heavy duty floor mats in the front.

Floor is in great shape, no weakness or sagging anywhere.
Carpet in the front is in good shape, not perfect but totally acceptable for a van this age.

The Westy is not in perfect shape at this point but mostly any issues are cosmetic. The heart and soul of the van, the motor and the mechanics are all in great shape.
Things we have had done.

2004- This was all done by Go Westy

New tent. Still in great shape, no tears, no stains, no mildew, no leaks. Zippers all work perfectly. Tent has 3 sipper windows, one on each side and one facing the front of the van.16" Go Westy rims
Bilstein ShocksPropane Heater installedExtra Battery added for the CabinAdded a 110v AC power inverter for 110v accessories
The shocks and the 16" rims make a huge difference in handling on the road,

Around 100,000 miles.... Work done here in Eugene
New ClutchNew BrakesNew MufflerNew Alternator

Around 120,000 milesNew Heads from Go Westy. Heads were done here in EugeneBilstein Shocks were replaced with the same Bilstein model.

Around 130,000 milesNew Nokian Traction Tires
The motor is the original motor with a fairly fresh set of heads with around 13,000 miles on them. Van runs Great. 4 speed Manual shifts perfectly, Brakes well. Starts every time.
Things that need repaired:Mechanical: The front dash fan has gone out. I have not had it replaced and was quoted $700 to have it done by the mechanic here in Eugene.
Power Door lock has quit working on the passenger door. Door still locks and unlocks, but isnt actuated by the power lock system.
Driver side window is slow to go up and down and sometimes takes an extra push on the switch to engage.

Cosmetic/appearanceThe panel on the sliding door has deteriorated around one spot on the right side of the panel. See pictures.
The locking arm in the lid over the propane stove has popped the rivot that secured the locking arm to the base of the stove. Can be worked around but should be an easy fix.
The light over the driver seat is not secure and it dangles slightly. Still works though.
Some small rust on the seam of the rear side panel. See pictures. The clearcoat has come off of the top area over the back hatch. See picturesthere are a few pencil eraser size chips on the front of the van from rocks or road debris. All normal for a vehicle this age.obviously a few minor scratches here and there, but no dents and Ive never been in in accident with this van.

The van has AC but I would say that it was mostly ineffective in a van this size and eventually after running a long time it would drip water. We quit using it and to be honest never really missed it.

The fridge has been removed for a couple of reasons. Number 1 is that it was too small for traveling and camping, and mostly ineffective. It would cool just fine but as soon as you opened the door to make a sandwich, all of the cold air came out, hot air went in. An hour later, everything in the fridge was basically warm all over again, waiting for the fridge to cool itself back off. We immediately started using big coolers on our travels and never looked back. The fridge was basically wasted space.

In place of the fridge we mounted a McIntoch Amplifier for the stereo and the crossovers for the Morel 3 Way speaker system in the front doors. The front door panels were modified for the speaker system. The head unit is a Mcintosh MCD 406 audiophile CD player. The speakers are Morel with a 9" woofer and separate mid and tweeter in each door. Stereo is awesome.
Noise reducing material was deployed throughout the van for reducing road noise and insulating the van for cold weather travel and camping. It helped a bunch.
All in All a great van that needs a little bit of work but outside of the dashboard fan, the mechanics are all fantastic. Motor is a beast. Mileage is low. Tires are almost new. I wouldn't hesitate to take off on a 2000 mile journey in this van today!!
