Car description

I have been a VW mechanic for 40 years and I am selling my 1973, 1700cc air cooled baby of 20 years because I bought a Westfalia and do not need 2 Campers. The 1973 pop top camper for sale has been housed in my garage in Portland, Oregon, was used once a month, and has been meticulously taken care of for all these years. It has its original paint, meaning it was never involved in an accident. It is very clean including the title. It has a Riviera pop top and Westfalia front seats, bench/bed, table, extra seat, cabinet, and side windows. Because of its age of 45 years it it is exempt from DEQ requirements in Oregon and possibly in other states, has no electronics to break down, and it has a simple configuration that is easy to repair should the need arise. As of now, I am not aware of any defects that would impede its ability to be driven on the streets and highways and even off-road. Last year I rebuilt the motor using only the best quality parts (new main and camshaft bearings; professionally reground camshaft at a specialty shop, new valves (valves lapped into seats) and valve guides, new pistons and cylinders (cylinders individually lapped into the cylinder heads for faultless seating thus avoiding gaskets), new carburettor. Major documents shown in photos, all documents available to buyer. When I look through my receipts (available to the buyer; see photos), I bought the piston and Cylinder set, cam followers, bearings and other supplies on 1.21.16 and then worked on the engine during the following months. On 11.5.16, I bought another piston set for the new Westfalia meaning that the 1973 camper was finished and ready to be driven. I drove the 1973 camper for the next 8 month, once a month for 180 miles meaning the new motor has been driven for 1440 miles and the piston rings are nicely seated. I also installed a new starter, carburettor and recently, a new Bosch alternator. It is thus in excellent mechanical condition and street-ready for a vacationing couple or even 4 people to fly to Portland, Oregon, explore our beautiful northwest, and then camp all the way home. The camper can sleep 2 people below and another 2 people above, under the pop top. My wife and I, or I alone always slept above under the pop top because it is convenient to stop the car, pop the top and go to sleep. The engine and the driving wheels are in the back and therefore the camper can be used for off-roading on moderately difficult terrain (during WW2, the German military used similarly configured Volkswagens in the field). Because the camper was driven in the north west, it has never been exposed to salty roads during the winter and therefore shows very little rust however, the battery pan was rusted and had to be replaced. The floor pan on the passenger's side has a few very small rust holes (see the photos that were back-lighted for better visibility) that do not impact the sturdiness of the floor. The floor pan on the driver's side is entirely intact. The underside of the camper is intact and has no rust holes (see photos) because as long as I owned it, it was frequently sprayed with oil to inhibit rust. It has a few minor dings and blemishes but considering that the original paint is 45 years old, it still looks beautiful. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me for answers. The camper sells as-is and where-is. Please find additional photos and videos for the 1973 VW camper here:
