Here she is. The lady in red. My daily driver. Soon she may be yours.She is a stock 1972 Candy Apple Red VW Karmann Ghia which has been meticulously maintained with receipts to prove.She starts right up, idles well and will do 75 on the Highway if you let her.Shifts easily, clutch is strong i.e don't have to give it gas if you let up slow enough off of it and watch it engage. For those who know!Engine is strong, Ac is cold!She will stay parked as passerby ogle her and stop to ask questions with thumbs up.It is impossible to stop at a light without someone rolling down the window and telling you how beautiful she is. Something about CANDY RED!She took 2nd place here in Chicago at a couple of shows in the Daily driver category, plus you don't see Karmann Ghia's is what i was told.
But she is not a show car. She has the requisite dings and scratches that a daily driver has. The interior seating is in great condition. I siliconed a portion of the left rear quarter window so the window would stay closed. This was done because the hing is broken on that side ($20 part) and i did not want to risk losing the window panel. All the glass is original VW glass - very expensive to replace. The rear window can easily be undone when it is time to replace that hinge. or you could leave it as is. The dash has a few scuffs and scratches but vintage due to the year.
She was repainted from the previous seller and has held up well ( see pictures).This is one of the nicest, cleanest, well-maintained daily drivers you will come across with AC to remind you!Nose cone has never been dented. That gorgeous curve is the same one as the day she left the factory.Window seals have been replaced and are in good condition. Car does not leak.
There is minimal rust on this car - barely any. I don't believe ads that say rust free. How does a 40 or 50 year old car have no rust unless it's a frame off resto or stored in a vacuum?
The undercarriage has been completely treated with a matte black rust preventative coating. It has done its job!All pans and panels are solid with no give.
Panasonic sound system with (2) speakers in the rear side panels and a 6.5 subwoofer kicker box with tweeters that really enhance the sound behind rear seat.
There is an accessory fuse box in the front trunk in case you want to add additional electronics.There is an interior LED light under the dash from drivers side to passenger side with switch between the guages so you don't have to fumble for coins on the ground and it looks cool driving at night time like your in a video being filmed.
As you can see by the photos there are (2) vintage working yellow fog lights with led switch on the dash.You also have (2) headlight eyebrow louvers which gives her a more distinctive look and stands out more to the next Karmann Ghia.Tweed coco-mat panels in all the footwells. Clean, clean, cleanStorage wells beneath the rear seats have been rubberized so things stay put there.You also have the rear window vintage window blinds.Wood grain steering wheel and horn works.Spring loaded trouble free round chrome shifter with sliding trigger that releases reverse lockout.
Parking brake works which can sometimes be a problem in these vehicles. You have to pulled on the parking brake easy when using it. Pulling on it like you lifting up weights will sure to brake the line.Heater vents and valves function perfectly with new heater box and exhaust system.Garage kept. Babied. Original 1972 manual and How to keep your Volkswagen Alive manual included.Just under 90k and ready to do 90k more.
Bottom line - I had her for 3 years i'm 6 foot 3in. just recently had surgery on my left knee and getting out of driving manual vehicles for now.
This is a clean, well-maintained, relatively rust-free gorgeous classic car that has been cared for and driven regularly. It has not sat in a shed or a barn for decades. That might sound good, but it's horrible for a car like this. VW's have to be used, driven, and cared for. Just like this one has. This is not a showroom car to look at behind glass. This is a car to drive, enjoy the compliments- let her take you back to simpler time.
