Car description

This is a very, ery straight (accident free) & Original "Dry" California Volkswagen. This is the last year of the Bay Window bus's as the next year they went with the Vanagon body style. The underside (floors) are completely rot free as is the frame, ocker panels & all structural parts, ust look at how straight all the panels line up.

The ASI Riviera Camper top (similar to Westfalia) had somehow allowed for water to accumulate on the sides of the roof & it caused it to rust. It is mostly on the drivers side & it will require the cutting out of the rust area (approx 3 inches wide by 7 ft. long) & then welding (best) or riveting in a new piece of metal with weatherproof cocking. The structural metal that runs the length of the roof sides next to the drip rail is solid (as pictured) so you have that structural support to weld to. Please note that this en devour is not for everyone YET is quite doable as it is just sheet metal & nothing structural. Also one cannot see the damage unless the top is raised up AND it did not do any damage to the inside of the camper as seen by the beautiful original headliner.

Once repaired this camper will give you many, any more fun years of service as everything structural is original & intact.

You can take it to a local body shop OR on your way down to Baja you could have it repaired in Mexico for less funds & then continue on your way to the desert. The fuel injected Type 4 series engine starts right up & runs very strong with no smoke.

It does have the usual small exhaust leak & the tires are tired.

The rare & hard to find Automatic Transmission is not for everyone YET if you know them & are seeking an Automatic then it is quite a rare find indeed.

It shifts very smoothly & has a really good power curve for being an automatic & the vehicle goes straight down the road without pulling whatsoever.

The wife of the previous owner claimed that the 85,375 miles showing are original & by the looks of the vehicle AND the way it runs with zero smoke & drives would substantiate that claim.

The vehicle has sat since 2002 when the previous owner passed away & the 2002 oil change sticker on the windshield shows the same miles as it had back then.

Brand new Interstate Battery, new plugs, ires & dist. cap

It does not appear to have been smoked in either as the owner was a non smoker & it does not have any smells or odors to my sensitive nose. This has the rare thermostatically controlled camping furnace & a two way refrigerator (both untested).

It handles really well & tight probably due in part to the low mileage AND that it also has heavy duty front & rear sway bars added in addition to the stock sway bars.

It had been sitting for the past 10 years with the California Non Operational status so I did not insure it to drive it in & have it smogged.

So the vehicle is being sold in as is condition without a smog certificate which I believe would pass cleanly.

If the winning bidder is not a California resident then it does not matter & if they are local then I would most probably assist them to take it in & have it pass smog.

Please ask ALL QUESTIONS prior to bidding & yes phone calls to me will take president over email as I do not live by my computer.Thank you for your time & Happy BiddingMichael 408-482-6800I have the right to end this auction at my discretion should it sell locally prior to the auctions end.
