Car description

This is a very nice example of a Mk 2 Spitfire which has been "upgraded" with features of newer, ore comfortable and reliable versions. I bought my first Spitfire brand new in 1975, nd have had several of them over the years, sing them as my daily transportation since they are so fun to drive. I bought this one over twenty years ago when I was living in California along with a 1979 "parts car", o I used the mechanical components from the '79 to rebuild this one since I wanted to drive it on a regular basis, nd the newer cars have nicer features. Consequently, he '65 now has a 1500 engine, ith dual SU-HS4 carburetors and electronic ignition. I also converted the alternator to a standard Chevrolet version, hich are extremely reliable and inexpensive. I used the "single-rail" transmission from the '79 which also has the electric overdrive in third and fourth gears so it is now a pleasant drive, ven at highway speeds. Along with the engine and transmission, pulled the rear suspension from the '79, hich has a lower gear ratio and longer axles for better handling. I also converted the brake system to the newer "tandem" master cylinder design for improved safety.Having driven the car regularly since I first restored it back in 1992, t was getting tired so I completely stripped it down a couple of years ago and began it's second restoration. This time, dismantled everything down to the bare frame and built it back up with all new suspension bushings, all joints, nd other replaceable components, ixed all body damage, reated and painted all body panels and reassembled the car with fresh paint and rubber throughout. As you can see from the pictures, t is in excellent condition, ith certain features from the '79 in the interior to make it more comfortable to drive. I also installed a wooden dash panel from a Mk 3, ince I think it adds a nice touch. The exhaust is an Ansa system that was purchased a year ago as "new old stock", nd is no longer available. This is unfortunate, ince it has the most pleasant exhaust note of any system I have ever heard on a Spitfire.I have spent WAY more money on this car than I could ever hope to get out of it in this auction, ut my current financial situation forces me to make some changes, o someone is going to get a really cool little car for far less than they could build it on their own. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions.
