Car description

Please note that experience shows us that the photobucket of over 100 large pixel pictures posted here are in most cases best viewed and downloaded using the very latest and most updated version of the 'Firefox' browser as some other browsers and especially older browser versions are not capable of accommodating the size of the download. Over the years our clients have overwhelmingly been appreciative of our many unaltered large pixel photos posted in our ads and our feedback has been that it is very rare that a dealer will post all but the most flattering of professionally finished photographs. We prefer to post the many photos taken of the car, in sometimes unflattering but natural sunlight, in order for our prospective buyers to be able to see true and reliable images of the car advertised and that is the reason for some seemingly duplicated shots. We trust you will agree.
West Coast Classics are proud to present a superb ground up restoration example of this 1961 TR3A Roadster Convertible in striking 'Sky Blue' color paint with a Black interior with a Black soft top and side curtains.
This is obviously one rare and highly desirable classic British sports car - a completely rust free and fully restored example of the legendary chrome bumper and 'Wide Mouth Grille' TR3A roadster! The trunk, floor boards, rocker panels and all the typically rust prone areas are all completely solid and rust free - an obviously always garaged example that was lovingly restored!
The 'Sky Blue' color paint is in simply stunning condition and the interior is also quite extraordinary with Black seats and matching door panels, a lovely original steering wheel and original 'Jaeger' gauges. The Black color soft top is new and the car has side curtains, original disc wheels with 4 brand new tires and its original spare wheel with leather strap in its storage compartment. The 1991 cc engine purrs quietly under the hood and the 4 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly through the gears - an absolute pleasure to drive!

The original TR3 (1955-57) was a mildly restyled successor to the TR2 (1953-55) which had won numerous rallies and races in the 1950's making the TR's both famous and respected with remarkable 100mph performance from a 4 cylinder engine with 'wet' cylinder liners, a legendary and virtually unbreakable powerplant if one observed the 'redline'! In 1955 The TR3 was introduced with no major mechanical or dimensional changes apart from front disc brakes and a small horsepower gain which was increased from 95bhp to an even 100bhp,
an increase of 5hp over the TR2 thanks to the larger SU H6 carburettors fitted and the addition of a 'high port' cylinder head and later with an enlarged manifold with the introduction of the TR3A in 1958.
The 'Wide Mouth' TR3A was introduced in 1958
updated with various changes including a full width radiator grille and this facelifted model was commonly referred to as the Triumph 'TR3A', although this was an unofficial referral. It soon gained a much wider following from its predecessors the TR2 & TR3, being much improved and more civilized thanks to better seats, proper door handles and other improved interior refinements. Marked by a full width stamped grille it was respectfully referred to as the 'Wide Mouth' in contrast to the earlier 'Small Mouth' TR3. The TR3A offered sparkling performance at a very competitive price and enjoyed a long production run with buyers and enthusiasts still clamoring for it even after the introduction of the TR4 in 1961. It has been estimated that only some 9,500 of the original some 58,000 models built survive in the world today. It proved to be one of the most ubiquitous sports cars of the late 50's and early 60's and enjoyed a long string of competition successes with its thoroughly British character ensuring it an avid enthusiast following that continues to this day, building on the enviable legacy of the TR2, the TR3 enjoyed much success in international motorsport competition with the car being known for its superior braking ability, making it an autocross favorite. The TR3A is often seen in Vintage and Production racing today with the TR3A, despite being almost 50 years old, still competitive in the E-Production class of SCCA .
The TR3A has since received the coveted certified 'Milestone Car' status recognition by the 'Milestone Car Society' of post war cars (1945-72) who judged their cars in five categories; styling, engineering, roadability, performance and innovation and craftsmanship. A Milestone car had to be superior to its contemporaries in at least two of these categories.
Without a doubt this is one rare piece of British motoring history - a beautifully restored example for any Triumph TR enthusiast or simply any classic British sports car lover to enjoy today!
