Extremely smooth running/shifting TR6; very strong performer with an awesome exhaust note. Smog test exempt. This car is believed to be an original California car (or possibly from some desert region) that was in storage since the early 1990s. It was purchased in May 2013 by an aircraft mechanic who did the following (all new): starter, lternator, uel pump, omplete brakes, lutch, nd tune-up. All of work this was verified by our mechanic associate who was factory trained in Europe in 1982-83 (we outbid him on the car; he wanted it for his own use). All gauges are operating correctly. Some body rust but an extremely clean no-rust undercarriage (50 photos on our website show everything). Paint and body redone to a high standard would be $3,500 at the shop we use (about half normal retail). Needs: driver side door panel, river bottom cushion (comfortably drivable with supplied pillow), eat covers, oft top (has bows) wood dash ($375), new tires (currently has a good set of slightly smaller used tires; Redlines in photos were at least 14 years old with no production date - which started in 1990), nd spare wheel. Triumph's first sports cars were an attempt to compete with Jaguar's XK series, t lower cost. The TR-5 and 6, ith their six cylinders and more refined suspensions, inally approached that goal of a poor man's Jag. The TR6 essentially was the beginning to the end for MG. The Triumph TR6 was considered a modern classic throughout its entire 1969 to 1976 production run, distinction that it still holds today. 91% of all TR6s were sold in the US. With its timeless styling, turdy build, hroaty six-cylinder power and moderate price tag, he TR6 is a great alternative to an MGC, 240Z or even a BMW Z3, nd it represents a hardy line of British sports cars of an era gone by. The first U.S.-specification TR6 was built in September 1968 as a 1969 model. A clever and comprehensive facelift by the Karmann works in West Germany had altered the front and rear ends of the TR4 design, eshaping them in a squarer, ore integrated styling theme. The resulting TR6 was a car that looked wider and very modern. Under the hood was a 2,498cc overhead-valve straight-six engine as introduced in the TR250. This twin Stromberg-carbureted engine made 104 HP at 4,500 RPM and 143-lbs.ft. torque at 3,000 rpm. This engine was mated to a 4-speed manual all-synchro gearbox (in mid-1971, he TR6 received slightly different gear ratios). Front disc and rear drum brakes hid behind wider 15 x 5.5-inch steel wheels. A new anti-roll bar in the double wishbone and coil spring front suspension worked in concert with the carry-over trailing-arm and coil spring independent rear suspension to improve the TR's already agile handling. In twin carburetor form it had plenty of torque and made some of the best sounds in sports cardom. TR6s are easy to maintain, ood-looking, ugged and have easy parts availability. They're an ideal first collector car and are almost constantly appreciating. NADA High Retail valuation for a 1972 is $34,600 - about $6,900-$8,100 more than for a 1975 or 1976. The early year cars are better: low emission restrictions, igher compression and a better camshaft, esulting in higher torque and rev band, cceleration, tc, aking it a more enjoyable car. We sold a 1970 model early this year that had a very nice interior but was mechanically far inferior to the current car. It went to Germany for the asking price of $10,500 ten days after the ad went up. Considering the interest in that car and the relative pluses and minuses of this '72, e offer it at $5,900. Completed examples can be found from anywhere between the mid-teens and high-twenties or higher. Demand is strong from all over the world.
