Car description

Have you ever heard of the Forrest Fenn treasure? Apparently my neighbor has. He asked me to help him liquidate some of his stuff to fund the trip for him and his kids, sounds super fun too bad I have a job and my dad was not nearly this cool. I'll tell you what he has told me about the car and what I know about it, he asked me to price it 75% of what the market shows so I'm straight guessing here cash is king obviously. It is a 1 owner super clean virgin unmodified 1989 Toyota Supra Turbo Targa Auto purchased new from City Toyota back in 1989 with clean Carfax and it never left the same house for 29 years.

Speaking of Supras can we talk for a brief moment here about how much of an abortion the new MK5 BMW I mean Supra is?I went to college for Toyota T-Ten originally and have been working on them my whole life, but they have lost me with their profit based decision making after like 2003.First they try to capitalize off the FJ-40 with the silly FJ Cruiser that was just a 4runner with 3 wiper blades and nothing like the original but at least it is still a Toyota. Then they try to capitalize off the AE86 Corolla with the Toyota 86 subaru joint project which is not a terrible vehicle but surely isn't anything like an AE86 Corolla has more in common with the sports 600 but isn't even 100% Toyota either. Then they bastardize the Supra name with a base model BMW Z4 that has ZERO Toyota parts on it other than the fact that the exterior looks different.I mean they didn't even bother to change the interior or a single mechanical component. The car is 100% a BMW Z4 that has been rebadged as a Supra and it doesn't even have the more powerful version of the engine, it go the lowest power version they make with only an Auto trans AND this only makes like 15 more HP than the Supra did 26 YEARS AGO!Oh and it is also going to cost way more than a Mustang GT which will absolutely roast the supra in every category which is just sad.I grew up hating Mustang/Corvette owners, but sadly their cars are a much better idea to spend your money on.You can get 700hp out of either spending less than 40k, they are much more reliable and easy to work on than a BMW, they look better, parts are cheaper, should I go on?Toyota deserves to be disowned for continuing down their path of profit seeking greedy actions that disregard their entire past followers that followed for the right reasons.

Everyone values the 5-speed cars higher than the automatics but I have no idea why. I've owned both and the automatic cars are faster, they stay in the boost between shifts and have lower gearing and are much easier to launch hard. The might be slightly less fun to drive but I generally like winning instead of losing races. And they are just as strong as the R154 but you can upgrade these. The R154 just is what it is. Here are the details I know about this car.

Interior: Interior wise it is in great shape, the leather is still soft which is super rare for an older Toyota. No cracks in the dash or the leather, the back seats are a little faded at the top but are otherwise near perfect. As is the carpet, the dash, the controls, the headliner, etc.... The pictures show it. Everything works except the cruise I think it is just a fuse but haven't messed with it. Radio, heat/A/C all work, the A/C works you can hear the compressor kick on but it is low on freon so it doesn't get super cold as it is an old R12 system and would have to be fully retrofitted to hold R134a properly. Power windows, seat, gauges, lights, etc... all work fine. Hood and hatch release work fine, as does the center ashtray which is a sign of a well cared for car those almost always break. It also has the factory cup holders in the center console. Factory spare tire is there AND THE FACTORY TARGA TOP RATCHET ALLEN WRENCH IS THERE WITH THE BAG. Along with the owners manuals of course. Smells great!

Exterior: Exterior wise the car shines. Paint is original. No bad wrecks, clean Carfax, all VIN stickers present and accounted for. Front lip is still there, that should say enough on its own. Has a couple dings/dents from being driven normal wear and tear, left fender and quarter are the worst but could easily be PDR'd. The rear bumper has a crack at the bottom and the exhaust has a minor leak from being pushed back, basically the owner was working on the rear brakes and it rolled off the jack stand and into a small retaining wall. Just an accident but that is the worst damage, easy to fix. The car is all original and easily a collectors item with minor work. The factory paint is in great shape with a proper detail. Still has the dealer installed pinstripe. No cracks in any glass no issues with any lights no targa top leaks, and most importantly ZERO RUST. The undercarriage is damn near perfect. Super clean. All the wipers work, headlights pop up and down no issues.

Mechanical: Mechanically it will drive to california and back no issues. The only work it needs is a power steering pump, it is leaking pretty good but that is cheap used on a bunch of different cars. That and the previously mentioned exhaust leak (just a good excuse to put a nice tasteful exhaust on it so you can hear the inline 6 properly!). Tires are damn near brand new, alignment is good car tracks straight no vibrations, brakes are good though the front rotors could be machined (another good excuse to upgrade them). Engine runs perfect, no knocking, no leaks, no overheating, no ticking, no smoke, boosts strong, timing belt and water pump are good they were done at 75k. I mean just look at the pics of the engine bay and how clean it is. Hard to find a later model 7M-GTE this clean, they gained 5hp in 89'. Transmission shifts like butter, super smooth, and put it in ECT power mode it gets it done. The TEMS suspension works great too, you can feel a noticeable difference between normal and sport mode. This car has clearly been babied, other than the PS pump and some freon you're good for awhile. I recently checked and topped off all the fluids just because I felt like it. I got my ass beat by this automatic car several times when I had my stock 89 5 speed turbo. So I'm happy to see it go, bad memories of shame.
