Car description

Original 1980 Subaru BRAT GL. Runs, drives, PA Inspected till May 2020

Hello. Here is my 1980 Subaru BRAT GL with the 1.6l 4-speed. My Godfather had one when I was a kid and I loved sitting in the back and going fishing so I had to have one. Sale includes a 1980 Reagan-Bush bumper sticker and an Atari t-shirt (not really, I am keeping those)Get the cassette hooked up to some new speakers with some 80’s rock and you are good to go. My daughter is now driving, selling to get her something newer. I have not owned the car that long and have had some minimal work done as described. Seriously interested bidders would be welcome to check the car out in person, I am 20 minutes from the Pittsburgh airport. Will also post a videos of it running and driving in a google drive with copy of records that came with the car.

Selling as-is where-is no warranty of any kind (obviously, it’s 40 years old) My mechanic described it as a solid car for the age and wanted to buy it. But is it a 1980 Subby so it is by no means perfect. Description is my best shot but not guaranteed to be 100% correct. Please review the images. I am not a mechanic

Mechanics:

Car is overall solid. Runs/Drives/Shifts/Stops. Has a valid PA mechanical inspection until 4/20 with an Emissions exception since it was probably driven less than 5000 miles per year. Inspection in PA is necessary because previous owner was probably using it as a driver rather than with an antique plate which doesn’t need inspection

Work I had done:

New tires, intake manifold repaired, sloppy shifter was corrected by a shop using some custom parts. Shifts tight now.

Previous work:

I have a scanned file of all the receipts that came with the car. Previous owner spent a fortune keeping it as a driver in new parts and service. I will provide the file as a PDF. Too long to list so you can review the file yourself. The car runs and drives, could use alignment but holds the road very well. Don’t expect to set any speed records and it sounds like a 40 year old car. I have been driving it around on nice days, get a lot of lots especially since no one under 40 even knows what it is.

Known Issues, have not done anything to investigate them

AC probably doesn’t work

Heat works marginally

Blower motor works

Radio is an aftermarket cassette deck. Not sure it is even hooked up, it does power on

Citizen Clock in dash still tics and keeps time

Headlight work on low beam. High beam doesn’t seem to work. Might be a fuse or the switch

Turn Signals work

Light bar with two Hella lights work, wired on a separate switch

Brakes work good

AWD seems to work. It engages and seemed to spin gravel at all four wheels when I tried it. We haven’t had any snow to try it in

Interior/Body

All seat belts in the car work and the two in the back with the jump seat work

Wipers work but sprayer is weak

No cracks in the glass, windows or rear slider

Bed appears to have been coated with truck bed coating

Includes the front bumper as shown but is not on the car. I was going to have a brush guard fabricated by my welder.

Driver seat is ripped, passenger seat is in decent original condition.

Floor appears to have new foil insulation installed. Carpet is not original, sort of an amateur install but appears newer. Soiled original carpet included which might be a good template.

Hand Brake works good. Holds the car even on a hill

Dash is cracked has a cover as shown

Windows roll up and down

Body is painted a flat black, would describe is a “rat rod”. Original color was cream. Looks good as a rat-rod or you could probably paint it back to original color with a little work

Tailgate has some rust

Frame is as shown.

Surface rust as shown on passenger fender.

Condition of under carriage and body as shown in pics

Includes Original Owners manual, repair manual, and parts manual that came with the car.

Miles: Title shows 44, XXX Odometer will go up some as I drive it around little like today it was 70 degrees. Otherwise it is in the garage.

- I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the mileage. It is on the title, but I cannot guarantee it. I bought it thinking the mileage probably was not correct but don’t know. I just don’t think it’s possible it only had that few miles

- Odometer works and all Gauges seem to work

Better Pictures will be posted in the drive in the next couple days, weather has not cooperated.

Videos and pics.
