Car description

I purchased this Speedster brand new at Mecum’s Monterey California Auction 2013. The car was brought to the auction after being completely hand built by the top mechanic at Vintage Speedsters in HawaiianGardens,California.Myself, (along with the help of two of the best air-cooled mechanics in Tucson) have taken exceptional care of this car as well as having made some nice improvements to the engine and mechanicals. These include installing New Dual Weber 40mm carbs, a 72 plate competition external oil cooler with fan and inline thermostat switch, Petronix electronic ignition(no points), breather box, upgraded stainless steel brake lines and several other upgrades. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic,10W-30 motor oil which I have had changed once a year, every year along with full tune-ups. The car is mainly a weekend driver, having put less than 1000 miles/year since new(5795 current mileage). When not out cruising around the dry, sunny roads of Tucson....and putting a BIG smile on my face, the speedster is safely parked and covered in my garage.
There are other speedster replicas out there, but this one has several distinguishing features and trim details not typically present. Last months Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale AZ had one sell for $38,000.00 that only had a few of the options listed below. I encourage you to check out what it would cost to have one of these custom ordered and built like this one. Not to mention the long waiting period. Please go to: www.vintagespeedsters.com to check it out.The Company has since relocated to Scottsdale AZ where they are busy building and selling more of these classic beauties.

Of course, as nice as this car is, and well cared for, it is not "perfect" or without a couple of very minor faults. One being the horn does not currently work. Most people tell me the paint looks fantastic and they love the beautiful Porsche 911 Mexico Blue paint color circa 1973. There are a couple of VERY minor small ant-size rock chips. I also posted a photo attempting to show some hairline cracks in the paint on the rear deck lid around the louvered vents. They almost add more of a touch of authenticity or patina and are hardly noticeable. The other thing I want to mention is a small area (quarter-sized) in the carpet next to the accelerator pedal where my right foot has rubbed a small hole in the carpet where the transmission mound rises. There’s a photo showing the hole. Other than those, the paint and interior look fantastic.
If you don’t drive the car regularly, or have not started it in a couple of months, it may take a few attempts to turn over. But she always does start. I always keep a battery charger connected to the Optima High Performance battery that was installed in late 2016.Once started, you would never guess that there is only a 4 cylinder under the hood. As the engine purrs along with a low pitched rumble.
This car is so much fun to go out in. Everyone loves it! You will get tons of smiles and thumbs up from both UofA college students and foothills moms at the local market. The most commonly asked question you will receive is: “What year is that?”... Probably because a lot of the younger generations have never seen or are familiar with the 356 body style as much as they are the iconic 911. Most people think it’s the real deal restored older classic car. Believe it or not, I have had actual Porsche 356 owners, folks that own “real” 356’s, be fooled by it’s authenticity. It is titled as a 1960 Volkswagen, which is where the subframe pan originated. The VW frame was then modified,shortened,reinforce-welded and had the steering column relocated for authenticity.Since it is titled as an older VW, You can opt for historic license plates in many states. Having Historic plates adds to the mystery... Is it really a beautifully restored original 356?” Most of the time, I tell people that it’s a re-creation. They usually couldn’t care less and reply that it’s such a COOL car. Either way, be prepared for the attention she draws!
Disclaimer: this car is NOT obnoxiously loud or fast. I would definitely not categorize it as a muscle car. Although it does have some get up and go due to the bigger 1915cc engine option. But NO, you will not be doing burnouts or drifting...hopefully! The tight non power assisted steering engages the driver and is so much fun to carve through turns on curvy roads. Its beyond low tech by today's standards, but will take you back to what its actually like to "drive" an automobile. This little Speedster is all about the fun factor. Whether it be running errands, Friday night meet-up at the local Sonic Drive-in, cars and coffee on Saturday morning or any local car show, you cannot help but to have FUN.This Replica Speedster pays homage to Porsche’s original sports car design aesthetic of the 1950s. When this car was first designed and sold, it was priced reasonably and intended to be enjoyed by the “EveryMan”, thus the original 356s had less than 100 horsepower and were very affordable, not like today's badass 911s😄
