Car description

1985 Red/Red no sunroof US Carrera coupe starting @ $1985 with NO RESERVE.
Exceptionally rare example.Exceptional original surviving condition.Believed to be the only '85 Carrera with this list of COA certified options combo:1) Guards Red exterior.2) Can-can Red interior.3) Sunroof Delete (sunroofs were standard equipment by '85 for the US, so sunroof delete had to ordered that way, almost none were).4) Factory Carrera Spoiler package.

I found this treasure hidden away up in Chico, CA with it's retired owner for the last 17 years. It didn't come cheap, and with 17 years of differedmaintenance I only decided to pull the trigger because the motor passed CA emissions testing with such clean numbers and ran fantastic.Trailered it home and straight to Honest Engine of Midtown where compression was tested @ 180 across all cylinders. With this confidence, we got startedon the build...We started with pulling the motor and transmission.Steam cleaned the straight, factory undercoated body and wheel wells to a clean, grime free, factory level (it was already very clean, pictured below). Detailed/painted inner engine bay(by '85, Porsche did not do a thoroughjob) and added a new motor sound pad.
Separatedmotor and transmission, then sent the trans over to Ron at IPB Autosport to go through. Ended up with brand new 1st and 2nd gear syncros (originals saved and included) & filled it with Swepco.
While trans was with Ron, motor got fully serviced by Al @ Honest Engine, including: valves adjusted, plugs, new seals & gaskets where needed, and all new fluids. Car does not leak a drop, and is extremely clean both top and bottom.
Brakes needed fully rebuilt. Basically from lack of use, they were all starting to seize. Al@Honest Engine did all 4 corners which included a complete rebuild of each caliper.
A/C was gone through also by Al, and upgraded to R134 with a fresh charge.
When we put it all back together:
We added a custom stainless M&K muffler and customized the rear valance with a section out of a donor valance panel. Sound and performance aresuperb(original OEM Porsche muffler also included and in excellent condition).
Fitted new 7&9X17" custom '80's era painted Fuchs with new 205/50 & 255/45 Sumitomo ultra high speed rated tires.
Lowered and balanced suspension.
Refurbished original period upgraded audio system (inserted modern speakers and subs in original locations). System works and sounds great. The original 80's amplifier and tuner were installed cleanly and neatly back then so we kept them in.
Installed a period matching Momo Prototipo and matching guage bezels (original factory leather, extended hub steering wheel included and in very nice condition).
Added H4 sealed beam headlights and basically fixed any age related wear issues including changing bulbs, lenses, seals throughout the body, bumpers, trim, new windshield seal, front fenders to windshield cowl seals, etc (pictured below).
...also, before mating the motor and trans back together, we of course added a brand new clutch kit (complete kit including pressure plate, disc, baring etc).
The car now is magnificent. Basically 0 miles on a total resurrection of excellence. Itis as honest and original as you could ever hope to find. No corrosion or rust. Amazing (90-95% original) finishes throughout with the kind of integrityonly original Glasurit German paint, and full grain Porsche leather, can provide when stored properly. No accidents. Flawless, straight lines and gaps throughout. So much nicer in this condition than restored. I resisted the urge to use touch-up pens and paint on the exterior because, for 33 years old, the minor nicks, chips, scratches, wear, etc, are far fewer than most for the age, displaying correct characterand patina, and adding support to it's obvious unmolested appeal.Cars like this simply are not on the market today. Don't be fooled by the flood of inventory...all that is really out there anymore are the rough/questionable/quickly repainted/tarted up examples, which all need at least the amount of service this one got, but are not advertising those needs! Most Porsche owners don't have to sell into a week market like this, thus, most of the good stuff stays off the market.
Also included in the sale:Owners manual.Original toolkit.Original spare.Original jack .Original muffler.Original extended hub factory leather steering wheel.& a Factory ordered COA (certificate of authentic).
After the build:The car starts, runs, shifts, stops, sounds and drives remarkable. No way to share just how satisfying and exhilaratingthis car is...without a test drive of your own.

Well, that's about it. Over the last decade, I have built several of these subtle hotrods on amazing original examples, however, this one will likely be my last for a while. They are increasingly expensive to build and good, honest, let alone rare, cars are getting impossible to find. Add that to a down market, and it just doesn't make sense right now...Thanks for looking and best of luck!
