Offered for sale is an exceptionally clean, mechanically restored, wonderfully tight 1986 Porsche 911 Targa with 123k miles on the chassis and finished in factory-correct Black over a newly refreshed Black leather interior. Starting with a platform that was already accident-free, rust-free and in overall great shape, the current owner - the car's third - spent more than a documented $30k over the past two years and +/- 4k miles. The work was performed by marque experts here in Santa Barbara (Schneider Autohaus, Werner Schott Classics, etc.) and included, but was not limited to:

  • Full Engine Rebuild
  • Oil Lines Serviced
  • New Clutch Flywheel and Shift Bushings
  • Rebuilt Gearbox
  • New Muffler and Catalytic Converter
  • New Rubber Windshield Gaskets and Weather Stripping
  • New Targa Bar Seals
  • New Carpet Kit and Door Cards
  • New Leather Seats (Front and Rear)
  • Tons of New Miscellaneous Plastic Parts (Handles, Switches, etc.)
  • New Alpine Head Unit, Speakers and JL Audio Amplifier*
  • New Nardi Steering Wheel*

*Please Note: The original Blaupunkt radio/cassette unit and steering wheel were retained and can be reinstalled depending on the next owner's preference.

Copies of these service receipts can be forwarded to serious buyers upon request.

The end result of the current owner's efforts is a cosmetically gorgeous, mechanically excellent example, requiring only a new caring owner to be enjoyed for the next three decades plus. The original engine starts effortlessly without any smoke or hesitation, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the rebuilt 915 transmission's gears. The current owner ensured that everything that could have even possibly needed addressing was addressed, and so it comes as no surprise that the car is extremely tight: no leaks, crisp shifts, wonderful ride quality, etc. With possibly the exception of a couple concours quality pre-G50 3.2L 911s we've had the privilege of driving, this lovely '86 Targa is likely as close as one can get to recreating a factory fresh feel and is an absolute joy to drive, whether winding through the canyons, bombing down the highway or even just tooling through town.

The factory-correct Black exterior was refinished to a very high level some time directly prior to the current owner's acquisition in the summer of 2015 and it remains deep, lustrous and consistent, is marred only by exceedingly minor imperfections (a ¼" touched up scratch, a few rock chips in the front valence, etc.), and cloaks an entirely straight, accident-free body with consistent panel fits and gaps. The car's undercarriage is entirely factory and free of rust, as is the trunk area which retains its original space-saver spare. The targa bar is in great shape, as is all of the glass, and the original wheels have been refinished and are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires installed less than 4k miles ago.

The car's interior is effectively nearly brand new, the leather seats (both front and rear), door cards and carpets all professionally replaced and flawless. The original interior panels remain in excellent condition, the original dash is free of cracks or warping and the Targa top is in great shape - according to the owner it has always been stored fully extended when taken off the car, never folded in the boot. All gauges, switches, A/C and heat, etc. work as they should and, while the sound system is superior to how it left the factory, the original Blaupunkt unit can be reinstalled along with the original steering wheel if that is the new owner's preference. The car comes with its original owner's manual and an entirely clean Carfax report.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an incredibly strong and cosmetically clean 3.2L 911 Targa, one that's had an exacting owner go through and refresh everything at considerable cost so as to ensure the car can provide decades more of grin-inducing service. If you've been looking for a turn-key example that checks all the right boxes, this car deserves your serious consideration.
