Car description

This auction is for a BD 480 SPYDER chassis and body only set #005. One of only two sets that I will be building in the remaining 2015.THE PRICE OF THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE DEPOSIT ONLY. THE ROLLER SETS DESCRIBED ON THIS LISTING START AT $25.000. I will answer any questions at jbadel@hotmail.com or (57) 3192316532.About Juan Badel and his cars:I graduated with a degree in fine arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design. After a long career in advertising as a photographer and director, n 2012 I started the project of building a car for myself. That initial idea has become a life project. Since then I have sold the original car and four kits, hree in the US and one in the UK, oved into a smaller town where I can have a larger workshop, nd made sure that each car is better than the one before, hich is making the level of our work better all the time. I have added some photos of the body we are currently working on.You can see the whole process here:480spyder.tumblr.comAbout the car:The BD 480 SPYDER is a hand made car, nspired by the Porsche 550 Spyder and its succesor the 718 RSK; It is designed and hand built by Juan Badel. It is a two seat roadster, ith aluminum body, nd a tubular chassis. The engine is mid mounted, nd can be a VW or Porsche 912 or 356 power plant. Here are some videos of our previous builds:

Body: The body is 0.050 aluminum, ormed using the english wheel and hammer forms, xy acetylene welded, anded and brushed. We do not paint our cars, t takes some much work to do it that it would be a shame to hide it under filler and paint. Chassis: The chassis is 16 gauge structural steel, imilar to the Porsche RSK, ut with stronger materials. Suspension: The front suspension is a standard torsion bar beam, W beetle derived. The rear suspension is a zero roll designed adapted from the best developments of the Formula Vee. It uses one central Penske adjustable shock. This combinations eliminates the dreaded wheel tuck that is a characteristic of swing axle transmissions. Breaks: Front disk breaks, ear drum breaks are what we normally use. But purists could want to install drums all around, t is possible. Engine: VW beetle type 1 is our recommendation. Anything from 1500cc to 2300cc, ingle or double carb. Porsche 356 or 912 engines and transaxles can also be used. 100 to 120 hp is the sweet spot for this type of car.sWhat is included in the auction package:-Aluminum alloy body with all hinges and fasteners. Brushed aluminum finish. I do not recomend painting this cars, here is just to much work involved in forming the aluminum to cover it with filler and paint.-Front wheel wells, loors, andmade aluminum seats, luminum fuel tank without fittings or cap, luminum firewall.-Leather gasket for the tank holding straps, nd rear lid gasket.-Steel tube chassis with all tabs and mounts. What is not included in the auction package:Everything else necessary to complete a car: complete front suspension, heels and tires, reaks, hifter mechanism steering wheel and box, edals, ngine and transaxle, ights and instruments, lectric system, tc.I do not sell parts or make any money on them. I will guide you through the purchase process, nd you will buy them directly. Its cost can start from a couple thousand if you use a vw engine, o a lot if you go with porsche parts, ut its your decision.Where will my car be built, an I visit/participate:I operate from a small workshop in Villa de Leyva, olombia. It is a beautiful town which has become an international tourist destination in recent years. Bogota is a 3 hour trip from Miami, nd then 2.5 hours by road to VDL. My costumers from USA and the UK have come during their build, nd had a great time here visiting and working on their cars. You are welcome as well.https://www.google.com.co/search?q=villa+de+leyva&es_sm=91&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAWoVChMIhMfxz76jxwIVBW0eCh1sDg4y&biw=1220&bih=654Vehicle assembly:Any mechanic can assemble the car, r you can do it yourself it is a simple process. If you want a complete car, can recommend one person to assemble the car for you, ut it is a separate process than the purchase of the kit through this auction.Build time:The car will be delivered in DEC 2015.Payment:30% will be required at start, he balance will be payed monthly as the build progresses.Coupe version:A coupe version is in progress, vailable at extra cost.
