Restoration Photos SELLER REMARKS Early GTOs are red hot among Pontiac fans and owning one with a top that goes down is always as safe as the gold in Fort Knox. Treated to a high-quality rotisserie restoration just a few years ago. this gorgeous Goat ragtop delivers big in every way that matters for fans of the original muscle car. Experts will take a look at the cowl tag and PHS documents and see that this car was originally Marimba Red (code L). Now Marimba Red isn't bad. but it just doesn't pop the way a GTO's paint should. so during the full restoration. it was disassembled. stripped. and completely refinished using a slightly more ambitious color. Grenadier Red. The result is vivid and definitely high-performance. so there's no risk of going unnoticed when you're behind the wheel of this car. The guys doing the work seemed to know their stuff. because the super-straight bodywork is worth of a high-end collector car like this and the finish uses two-stage urethane for a brilliant shine that's also low-maintenance. The first GTO was not big on advertising. so aside form a few GTO badges. it doesn't do a lot of shouting. although we'll admit that those three letters do carry a lot of weight on the street. Lovely chrome bumpers. nice stainless trim. and nicely restored taillights round out a really impressive convertible. Pontiac's Parchment interiors were always some of the most beautiful upholstery fitted to cars of the '60s. so when the restoration was done. the interior was changed from basic and boring black to the lovely code 219 Parchment duds you see now. Accurately stitched and completely new. including seat covers. carpets. door panels. and all the other little stuff. it looks almost new. The dark red carpets are a little flashy. but that's really what this car is all about. and it never loses sight of its performance mission. Bucket seats flank a center console with a Hurst cue ball and factory vacuum gauge and the engine-turned dash panel is a long-time tradition at the excitement division. A 4-spoke steering wheel. a full complement of gauges (including an ultra-rare factory tach). and an original AM radio make it feel like 1964 all over again. There's also a new white power convertible top with matching parchment boot. as well as a properly outfitted trunk with spare tire and cover. All signs point to the 389 cubic inch V8 under the hood being this car's original powerplant. It codes correctly as a 78X block. which is a 325 horsepower 389 with a 4-barrel carburetor. This one. of course. was upgraded to Tri-Power during the restoration and with those three little air cleaners in there. it isn't' hard to understand why they did it that way. It runs superbly and pulls hard from any speed and the details are quite nicely done. Options include power steering and brakes and a 4-speed manual transmission is how this car was originally spec'd. The exhaust system is brand new and highlights a well-detailed chassis that shows off a lot of fresh components. ranging from the lines and hoses to a fresh gas tank out back. Simple steel wheels with full wheel covers give this GTO a humble look and correct bias-ply redline tires totally nail the showroom look. Documented with PHS paperwork and restoration information. this is the GTO that we all wish we could call our own. Priced right and ready to rock. all it needs is you.
