Car description

Offered for sale without reserve is one of the rarest Pontiacs produced in the muscle era - the 1971 Pontiac GT-37 with the 455HO and manual transmission. One of 54 made. this PHS documented car still retains the original engine block (with VIN stamp). M-13 transmission and 12 bolt. Safe-T-Track rear axle. Aside from its rarity as a genuine 455HO car. this example is further distinguished by the build sheet as perhaps the most heavily optioned GT-37's ever found. Additionally. this automobile has never been in a collision and has suffered almost no body damage of any kind. The car has never been modified for racing and is uncut (even the rear package tray). straight and solid. even by West Coast standards. The firewall. for example. still retains the factory paint and crayon markings. The car has been driven recently (with another engine/trans installed) and is generally mechanically sound as is. I have owned the car for 28 years and it has seen its share of daily driver duties. so it is not a "survivor". or a time capsule from the 70's. It’s a solid car. but this automobile deserves a total restoration. As a daily driver for many years. there are a few details that have been lost over time. including the HO specific carburetor. air cleaner. distributor and exhaust manifolds. Additionally. the heads. while correct early castings. are not original to the car. The heads are bare. and the engine will need a total rebuild. I discovered some minor freeze cracking in the water jacket/lifter galley area which did not leak for many years I drove it. but has since been welded. deburred. dressed. shot peened and sealed with Glyptol. Repairs to the block are completely hidden under the valley pan area and will not show in any way on a completed engine. The block has never been bored. and will clean up nicely. The crank is still standard. but will need to be ground. Original rods are included. and show no damage. The original aluminum intake is perfect. and still retains the original crossover and rare shrouds. Required bodywork on the car will be minor. and no body panels will need replacement. The original owner installed a Judge wing right after purchasing the car. so holes in the decklid will need to be repaired. Rust areas include the typical rear window area (light). a minor spot aft of the right rear tire. and the right side trunk pan. where it appears as though some corrosive substance was placed there. The wheel wells. differential kickup. and aft kickup are perfect. Floors are great. though the passenger footwell is thin under the carpet from a heater core leak years ago. From the bottom of the car it looks great. and I believe the floors do not need to be replaced to be able to show the car. You often see the term "rare" thrown around in collector car circles. but with only 54 produced. this car not only meets that description in full. but thanks to the 455HO. manual transmission. hood tach. nbsp;limited slip rear end. stunning color combination and a host of other options. adds the term "desirable" as well. Cars like this just don't come up for sale very often. so grab it while you have the chance. A non refundable $1000 deposit is due at close of auction. with the balance of payment due within 14 days of auction close. Shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser. I will store the car in dry. indoor storage for up to 30 days at no cost. and for $400 per month (waivable. at seller’s option) starting month 2. Engine is partially assembled. covered in plastic. and bolted in the car along with the transmission and driveshaft. All remaining parts are in trunk. Car is ready to roll onto a trailer and ship today.
