Car description

This 1963 Plymouth Savoy has been a race car all its life. has a huge amount of character and an incredible collection of go-fast goodies. It was raced during the heyday of drag racing at such tracks as Lyons. Sears point. Carlsbad. Fremont. Riverside. Orange County. Los Angeles County and Bakersfield. It was originally owned. built and raced by Don Swanson. a well-known racer of the era. He now runs a racing school in San Diego. It was also raced by Bruce Jenner in the mid 80's at a celebrity drag race in Palm Springs. Jenner won in the finals against a Hemi powered Dart. In 1990. Don sold the car and it passed through the hands of several collectors until it was purchased in 2010 by its most recent owner. a businessman from Anaheim who had plans to do more than just look at it: he wanted to turn it into an 8 second drag carThe new owner pulled the 440 c. i. engine and transmission and took the car to Superior Automotive Engineering in Placentia California for a complete mechanical make over (engine. ransmission. uspension. brakes. roll cage work. fuel system. electronics and more) to the tune of more than $50. 00. Sadly. upon finishing the car he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away shortly thereafter. He only made it to the track for a couple shakedown partial throttle 1/8th mile passes. ( search youtube w/ " blast from the past 1963 Plymouth " to see one of these passes ) After I picked up the car I went over to Superior for a visit and tour the facility. We went over the details on the car and got all the paperwork and the dyno sheets. (these will be included with the car)The roll cage was updated and safety certified to 8. 5 seconds in the quarter-mile. A chrome-molly tubular a-arm front end was installed. Also added were Wilwood disc brakes (front and rear) to slow the Old B body down. Next. they went to work on the engine. coming up with a 547 inch wedge making making 987 hp at 7200 RPM's . The price tag on the engine alone was over 29k!The engine has Indy cylinder heads and intake. 13. 5 to 1 compression ratio. dual 1050 CFM dominator carburetors a big roller camshaft. and lots and lots of other high dollar parts. They cut no corners on this build. The car has dynomax race mufflers and sounds incredible. The controls and switches are well laid out. I am sure I'm missing things on this build. feel free to give me a call @ 503 689 0650 if you have any questions. Thanks for looking My plan was to bring this car home and have my body shop do a beautiful red paint job on it and then sell the car in the spring. I have since had second thoughts about erasing the history in the existing paint job . I have talked to several old timers and to Don Swanson himself. They all agree: do not paint the car. rather let the history live on. So. I will run the car here as is and if it does not sell. I will paint the car as planned. By the way. it should run 8. 80 at about 153 in the quarter mile.
