Car description

1971 Plymouth Duster (VL29G1B439xxx) 340c.i. 4-speed, EV2 Hemi Orange with black hood treatment! The Duster was a factory G-code 318 car and has been upgraded to the 340. The Duster has a 340 Rallye dash and 150mph speedo, shark tooth grille, 8 ¾ rear with 3.91 gears, posi traction, rallye wheels with Cooper tires, factory drum brakes, original AM radio, stunning high gloss Hemi Orange base/clear paint, 340 side and trunk stripe, just finished a light restoration from top to bottom and has been completely checked over. All of the body numbers match on the rad support, VIN tag, and still has the original door VIN decal with a build date of 6-1971. This is an absolutely beautiful car and one of the nicest 1971 340 4-speed Dusters that you will find in this price range in this condition and nearly all original sheet metal.

Paint and body

The body is in excellent shape and the panels are very straight. The super high-gloss deep clear coat shine was just professionally wet sanded with 1500, 2000 and 2,500 grit paper to achieve a high caliber ultra finish. This long process alone took over 50 hours and the finish shows it! The Dusters sheet metal is believed to be original and only the very lower part of the ¼’s were replaced (about 4” up from the bottom). The trunk floor, trunk extensions, floor boards and frame rails are super clean and original. It was painted over 10 years ago (PPG base/clear) and looks like it just came out of the paint booth and looks fantastic! There are only a couple flaws in the paint one is a small 1 ½” scratch that has been touched up and is just below the wiper arm on the passenger side in the black paint and the other is a chip the size of a pencil eraser on the bottom edge of the rocker on the LH side. These are very minor but I like to be descriptive as possible and are shown in the other photos. The bottoms of the doors and wheel well lips are also clean and in excellent shape! The doors open and close excellent with the ease of a finger and even the door latches and strikers were cleaned and polished. PLEASE CALL ME AT 412-496-1439 AND I WILL BE GLAD TO DO A COMPLETE WALK AROUND OF THE DUSTER, THANKS, CHAD.

GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM

The glass is in very good original condition with only a few very minor marks. The front windshield has a few wiper marks and couple scratches but nice original shape. The original LH and RH side glass has a few minor scratches and rear glass is in very nice original condition. All windows operate as should. The front and rear bumpers are in excellent condition and been rechromed several years ago. The window trim is very clean and was polished for optimum shine.

INTERIOR

The interior was re-done with new correct Legendary seat covers (front and rear), newer carpet, door panels, trunk divider, headliner, speaker shelf, trunk divider, seat belts and dash pad. The 340 rallye cluster is very nice and was just restored. All the gauges work and operate correctly. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers, and license plate light. The factory AM radio works great. The E-brake, defrosters, heater, fan, horn and dimmer switch as should. The speedometer works great as well as the odometer.

DRIVE TRAIN

The strong running 340 makes excellent power and runs great. The 340 was rebuilt by the previous owner several years ago with a very mild cam and Indy cast iron X-heads, bored .030 over and topped off with a Edelbrock carb and intake. We just checked over the top end, adjusted the valves/rockers, painted the motor and changed the following items intake gasket, water pump, fuel pump, valve cover gaskets, temp sender, thermastat, plugs and wires, distributor, coil, engine wiring harness, ECU, voltage regulator, mini starter and relay, battery cables, hoses and clamps, alternator, belt, fan, motor mounts, and radiator. The 1972 340 has a casting date of 9-27-72. The A833 4-speed transmission is a 1968 23 spline and shifts beautifully through all gears! The Duster was a factory stick car so nothing was added or cut up for the floor hump. The 8 ¾ has 3.91 gears and a posi center section. The suspension has been checked over and had newer tie-rod ends, upper control arm bushings and new idler arm, new front shocks and new front end alignment. This excellent drive train combo has good performance, cools great and handles awesome. This is a very tight and excellent running 340 4-speed Duster!

I typically restore and finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 30 years. I do every one as if it were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale. This is one of the few cars you can view in person and say that it is actually nicer than the photos. I strongly believe the first person to view the car in person will buy it!!!
